I don't understand their urgency now in wanting to start treatment. I am still subclinical, the very very limited symptoms I did have of hyperthyroidism have disappeared but now the doctor said "well since it's been 6 months since you first tested positive for hyperthyroid (subclinical) we are going to start treating you." I voiced my concerns which are many with starting treatment, to include that he says I will gain upwards of 40+ lbs which with my other condition any weight gain can be deadly and then there is the fact they haven't done lab work since August.
I refused treatment of any kind until he agreed to run new labs and then told him I would need to talk to my neurologist again before starting treatment. I am one of the rare people who has not lost any weight with this and can not risk gaining weight.
I just don't understand what it is about the 6 month mark that makes him want to jump into treatment. I have NO symptoms of it at all. In fact I have symptoms of being HYPO rather then HYPER. The language barrier isn't helping me try and figure out why he wants to start it all of a sudden. I am not a risk taker and tend to take the word of what my doctor says but something is telling me it isn't right.
It will be at least a few weeks till I see these labs he just did so I don't know what he will say after that. I guess I have to wait and see.
He did say he would run the TSH, T4,T3,FT4 and FT3. So at least he is running all the Free ones he usually doesn't run those.

Often times doctors erroneously dose to the TSH when it is to the Free Ts which the ATD is dosed to.

He stated that estrogen and the thyroid hormone compete for the same protein receptor. Which ever "wins" is the one that is taken up and used.
If I am understanding this correctly then: This could be important for me because my PTC can be influenced by estrogen so if it is "winning" it could be causing problems with my PTC and throwing off the thyroid numbers leaving more "free" in the blood. Where if the thyroid "wins" then estrogen is lower and thyroid numbers come up. I am wondering if this is why I am having such drastic fluctuations in my PTC symptoms.
I may be off base but I definitely need to research this more. I tried asking him but the language barrier got in the way and he thought I was asking something else.
