Also asking,.....when should some of my symptoms lessen? How long does it take for medication to help the shakes, insomnia,heart racing,weightloss,body aches,...etc. Thanks

If I remember correctly (my TSH was at .009) it took a few weeks to have my levels come up. I too had the shakes, heart racing (140), palpitations, weightloss, insomnia, etc. Never had body aches that I remember. I started feeling like I wasn't going to die all the time in about 3 weeks. did your Endo give you a beta blocker for heart palps? that really helped me within a week or so. Weightloss turned around after a few months. this was 6 years ago. I am taking 5mg per day of methimazole plus one extra on Friday. TSH is still on the hyper side but it will level out. (At .1 right now)
I have my Free T4 tested. It has been dropping .1 each lab over that past 7 months. Don't know what that means!
Hang in there. It doesn't get better right away but well worth the wait. good for you refusing the RAI. I wouldn't have that done either. My hyper is caused by 10 bigger than normal nodules hanging around. I've had 2 ultrasounds done over 4 years and am planning another next month. So far they haven't grown in size. If any show up larger on this next ultrasound, I am having the 'fine needle aspiration' just to make sure nothing is brewing.

Thank you so very much mcramer. Just looking for a little break in symptoms. Prior to diagnoses being confirmed my reg primary gave me a script of low dose xanax for the racing heart and tremors. ( maybe blaming stress). .... Anyway once I saw my endoc and he ran tests,....he was aware of me being on xanax and he said that that will help as much as any beta blocker so they renewed another script for that instead of a beta blocker. It helps some. Especially at night just to grab some very much needed sleep. When you were first diagnosed was your dose of Methimazole much higher? I see where you said you take 5 mgs daily now. But was it higher at first? Thanks for answering.

I think it was 15mg to start for a few months, then down to 10 and now 5 mg with the extra 5mg one day a week. It did take some time but well worth the wait.
Something is brewing up in me again.....
Weight loss (don't mind this!) irregular heart rate, high blood pressure (that I take pills for), way too much stress and insomnia.... what a whiner I am.

You should do well on the methimazole. Be patient for a month or so.... There isn't a cure - only treat the problem. and if you ever stop taking methimazole (like I did for 3 months), your tSH drops back to .006 quickly. :)

Plan B. I have AFib. Family doctor thinks it could be caused by my thyroid. Next step..... cardiologist. I am freaking!

Hi:

Do not pay attention to the TSH when there are ANY positive thyroid antibodies coming from the TPOab, TgAb, TSI, TRAb, etc. These will cause the TSH to stay falsely low or high.

If your TSH is already at 0.01, it means a sign of positive thyroid antibodies somewhere.

If you could repost the lab results and please leave out any symbols, parentheses, etc. the labs will then be able to post. Just this board is wonky.
