Hyperparathyroidism is overactivity of the parathyroid glands resulting in excess production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Increased PTH consequently leads to increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) due to 1) increased bone resorption, allowing flow of calcium from bone to blood, 2) reduces renal clearance of calcium, and 3) increases intestinal calcium absorption.

I was wondering what kind of pain (description) those here have had in relation to their HPT? For example, people have mentioned abdominal pain, but what kind? For me, I notice that my abdominal muscles always feel like I've just done 100 sit-ups. Does anyone have any particular ways in which they would describe their pain? Also, I get these weird burning/tingling/sore sensations in my torso, almost like I visualize my blood being acidic and causing the pain. Maybe I'm just crazy. :-)

In fact the pain had passed by the time he was taken in but thought should have it checked out as was considering it could have been caused by a sport injury and he was scheduled for a full evening and day of events.
