yes, it is due to low calcium....you need to get this checked. In particular you need ionized calcium in addition to total serum calcium, phosphate, pth, albumim. Total serum calcium can be normal but ionized can show hypopartathyroidism and be low because (bound to protein or not)
Low calcium can cause heart arithmias, brain fog, and then gets worse. Please see a doctor or go to emergency or clinic.

I agree with parachild, it sounds to be a low calcium reaction, I had those after my surgery as well. Parachild understands the balance between all the "players" and it IS very serious. I hope you are getting help and soon. Please take care.

Is it possible to just have episodes of low calcium that come and go since calcium changes all the time? My calcium levels have been in the high normal. It was probably serum calcium.

Having low calcium will enact the PTH which then results in releasing calcium from bones to blood. Your calcium will start to rise to offset low calcium. This is why you should get checked when symptomatic of low calcium.

Thinking about you as you also have high blood pressure, tingling not a great sign with this condition also. I think you need to get checked, your body is trying to tell you that something is wrong.

Trust yourself that this is not normal. If you had a friend that had these symptoms you would probably pipe up saying first to get this looked at.

It's just that after my surgery, after I stopped taking calcium and it said that my calcium was fine is when I had the tingling. I've had it off and on over the years but it always goes away. Can scar tissue press on facial nerves? I will definitely be seen if I develop more symptoms. I know that if I go to the ER they won't take me seriously. The only times they do is when I've had a severe allergic reaction or chest pain. I wish that they had home calcium monitors! I appreciate everyone's feedback and concern.

I hope that your tingling issues have subsided. Did you increase your calcium intake? Dr. Toro at Tampa told me to take Oscal because it was faster acting into the bloodstream when I have those symptoms. He also said that you couldn't really take too much, that the body would rid itself of the excess, but it was important NOT to get into a low calcium state. I have been there a number of times since my surgery, long and involved story, but I too am having issues with keeping my calcium levels stable. I wish there was a blood testing kit for calcium level, much like a diabetic testing kit, it would sure take the guess work out of it and WOW, wouldn't that be great! Hang in there!

No, I'm not taking calcium supplements because my blood tests have shown high normal results recently. Could I just chew a couple of tums when I get that tingling? I get it with muscle cramps/tightness at the same time. I wish they had a home testing kit! Maybe the way they test for blood sugar.

Well, if the Tums (or a couple of Citracals, the Norman Center's drug of choice) make the tingling go away, you will know that the tingling is from low calcium.
But it just seems so...random, and possibly dangerous to go around deciding these things without appropriate medical advice. Darkness, I am concerned for you! I hope you can get onto a better foot with your docs so you can get the excellent care you deserve.

I agree with paraglider, I would try the tums or Citrical (or Oscal---the quicker calcium absorber as per Dr. Toro), it can't hurt and I think you will know within the hour (or less) if it goes away. I am having similar issues with itching/stinging and my doctor here in Colorado is trying to get to the bottom of it, with bloodtests. Hopefully yours will too, but doing research is sometimes the only way to get answers or at least educate yourself about what MAY be going on. I hope you get some answers Soon!

Thankfully the tingling has subsided. I will try the tums next time. :) I'm worried about taking too much calcium because of my high numbers lately.

Sorry that I haven't replied to this thread in a while. The tingling in my face has gone away. Sometimes it comes back at night but not too often. I will be glad once I get my calcium and pth levels checked in April.
