Hyperparathyroidism Support Group
Hyperparathyroidism is overactivity of the parathyroid glands resulting in excess production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Increased PTH consequently leads to increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) due to 1) increased bone resorption, allowing flow of calcium from bone to blood, 2) reduces renal clearance of calcium, and 3) increases intestinal calcium absorption.
Could you elaborate on the "brick" sensation? I thknk I know what you mean. I've never heard anyone describe it like that. Could you be more descriptive?
Regards, Brenden.
The feeling I get is like this; It feels like I need to support myself with a truss or corset (I'm a man, so that won't work) sort of like my muscles or whatever don't like me standing errect. If I stand next to a counter and put my palms on it and support my upper body weight with my arms, the strange pain or pressure or whatever it is feels better. Do you find some relief when laying down?
Regards, Brenden.
Call me crazy, but it seems to me that correcting the blood calcium level would be very helpful.....:^)
(One additional note--thyroid issues can affect gall bladder function too--I did not know that!)
Still the Ca, though--you are right that PTH doesn't seem to do anything without Ca. :^)
