Hyperparathyroidism Support Group
Hyperparathyroidism is overactivity of the parathyroid glands resulting in excess production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Increased PTH consequently leads to increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) due to 1) increased bone resorption, allowing flow of calcium from bone to blood, 2) reduces renal clearance of calcium, and 3) increases intestinal calcium absorption.
I know that blood pressure fluctuates quite a bit day by day, minute by minute, etc... I've been taking dilitazem 240 XC for a while now. I've been on ramipril off and on. I was taking 5mg of ramipril but then my doctor lowered the dose to 2.5mg because it was making my blood pressure too low. It seemed like my blood pressure was normalizing but I noticed that when I took it a few days ago it was 98/62 on the low side. That measurement was taken earlier in the day. I continued to check it and it seemed to go back to normal except for last night. It went up to 133/102! Could it be high calcium that is causing such wide fluctuations? I do know that when it gets really high I feel hot, have a headache and get really dizzy. Could reactine, singulair or symbicort be affecting it?
I'm not familiar with those last meds. Are they inhalers? Some inhalers and other meds for breathing issues can spike BP. I am takin the same meds and dosages you are. I still have a hard time keeping my pressure below the magic 140/90, but have readings usually between 128 to 145 over 75 to 90 depending on the time of day etc. Either way, I have had impossible to control BP for the last 3 years and have had some pretty nasty spikes along with the feeling hot and pounding heart. They checked me for a pheo but I was negative. My surgeon thinks that this HPT can cause all kinds of nutty stuff.
