Hyperparathyroidism Support Group
Hyperparathyroidism is overactivity of the parathyroid glands resulting in excess production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Increased PTH consequently leads to increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) due to 1) increased bone resorption, allowing flow of calcium from bone to blood, 2) reduces renal clearance of calcium, and 3) increases intestinal calcium absorption.
It's unfortunate that you are not getting followed by an Endo but very fortunate that you have a Doctor willing to monitor you regularily with testing.
Their are some Canadian Doctors that specialize in Parathyroid disease and are very well respected but unlike the US, they do not advertise so very difficult to find this information out.
If you look at Dr. Norman's site you will see how many Parathyroid surgeries he performs on people living in Canada. This is not free to them but obvious patients willing to be cured.
If your parathyroid disease is genetic based which is more likely in your case as you have already had 2 operations then it is every dna cell and you will be predisposed to develop another parathyroid adenoma. So keep advocating and following up on your blood work.
These tests involve the adrenal, pituitary and not only the thyroid.
Surprised if this is suspected that your bloodwork did not involve a whole spectrum of tests that should be done on a yearly basis.

Go across tabs at top, find publications and then look at each patient booklet. This will help you to see what is involved and what screening tests should be done.
I asked my doctor about getting another bone density scan done and she said that it takes a while for bones to build back up so it would be pointless to test! Calcium is being taken out out of bones so they will continue to weaken! My doctor does the metabolic panel, the tsh, vitamin D, calcium, pth and tsh. She only goes by the numbers.
I just want something to be done instead of all of this waiting!
