Hyperparathyroidism Support Group
Hyperparathyroidism is overactivity of the parathyroid glands resulting in excess production of parathyroid hormone (PTH). Increased PTH consequently leads to increased serum calcium (hypercalcemia) due to 1) increased bone resorption, allowing flow of calcium from bone to blood, 2) reduces renal clearance of calcium, and 3) increases intestinal calcium absorption.
Anyway, shortly after hypoT symptoms started for me I gained 30 # and couldn't eat a thing shortly after, and didn't lose the weight, either.
I finally chalked it up to my thyroid being so efficient that it was gearing down it's metalbolism rate so I wouldn't starve. Now I find out I don't have a thyroid, so it's all Greek to me..
:^) Sorry, I have been wanting to make an "atrophic" joke ever since you mentioned it a few threads back!
My thyroid might as well be in the tropics--it got all worked up and overactive when I was in my early 20's, and wore itself out by the time I was 40. Now it just sits around waiting for supplements to do its work for it like some sort of glandular welfare queen.....
:^)
Paraglider, did I make a funny earlier? I'll have to look for it, thanks. Hope you're doing good, or at least semi-good? I'd give you some extra insulation if you really wanted it!
I've been meaning to bring this up, does that little comment about being nice right under the reply box ever make anyone re-phrase what they were typing? ? Huuuuuummmmm? Makes me want to get goofy(er).
