Hypermobile Syndrome Support Group
Hypermobile syndrome is characterized by the ability to move a joint beyond normal range. People with hypermobility syndrome may develop other conditions caused by their lax connective tissues. These conditions include Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), varicose veins, flat feet, scoliosis, sprains, tendonitis, and bursitis.
I really respect you for the support you give to everyone.
I do think it helps to laugh about the bad things in life though.
When I was a child I would bend my knees up until they were behind my shoulders, cross my ankles behind my head so I was a coracle shape and my siblings would rock me around the room on my back.
I know not to let my own children do that, but before I knew about HMS it was good fun.
Accidents happen, I was not happy that my son was kicked in the back of his head, but I had to laugh when he told me he kicked himself!
This is something we can't change, we have to accept it as a permanent part of life. I don't want to worry my kids, I don't want them limiting their lives and I certainly don't want them to lose their sense of humour about it.
Another of my sons has some undesirable symptoms of HMS, but he feels its still an advantage because his long hypermobile fingers bend up to 120' at the top joints allowing him to play guitar like no-one I have ever known.
If I offended you by making light of a serious matter, then I'm sorry.
You make me feel guilty that I can't laugh about it. I can laugh about some of my own things. I have a pic of my father with his ankles crossed behind his head. I used to be able to do it, but don't want to even try now.
It's been just too much pain and suffering for me to laugh. Sorry.
