I suffer from severe hyperhidrosis. Even writing why I am here makes my hands and feet sweat profusely and is making my laptop wet. I sweat basically anywhere and everywhere but primarily in my hands, feet and groin. Sweating has made me anxious, but being anxious makes me sweat so I feel like Im in a never-ending cycle. I just want this problem to go away. I am tired of temporary fixes and just want a permanent solution. Having to worry about the 10-second handshake instead of the presentation or picking an outfit based on how much I think I will sweat during the day is ridiculous to me. I have had mental/emotional breakdowns for the last two days (as well as for the last couple years) out of frustration of how annoying this problem has become so I decided to post on here. What makes me angrier is that in the grand scheme of things, sweating isnt really a big deal. People deal with life threatening diseases and sometimes dont have food to eat. I am privileged so having something so minuscule like sweating consume my entire life is so frustrating. But I still cant help but want sympathy. I want people to understand how much this sucks and the thing is they never will. How can they understand the tingly feeling that goes through my hand right before I am going to sweat? How can they understand how self-conscious it makes me when my desk at school becomes wet as I lay my hands there? I know most people are very nice about the situation and wont judge me, especially my friends, but this doesnt make it any better for me because I still remember that one time that a girl said ew why are your hands so wet. Unfortunately these moments stand out the most. I also feel like people dont understand how disgusting it is to sit in your own sweat 24/7. I just want one day of complete dryness without the thought of sweat going through my mind (a thought that usually triggers more sweat). I want to make decisions based on what I want to do, not based on my sweat. I want to get surgery, but I dont want to deal with the shitty side effects. I dont want this to last for the years to come. How will I ever get intimate with someone with this issue? I know that people accept it, but what about me? I dont know how to end this because the list of things that bothers me about this can go on and on. Ive tried a lot of over the counter and prescription deodorants and tropical medications, iontophoresis (I got lazy on that one and stopped pretty quickly,so saw no results) and pills (which only work sometimes and cause severe dry mouth). I just want this to go away. I guess I just want to talk to people who understand what I am going through!
