Hyperhidrosis Support Group
Primary hyperhidrosis is the condition characterized by abnormally increased perspiration, in excess of that required for regulation of body temperature. Some patients afflicted with the condition experience a distinct reduction in the quality of life. Sufferers feel at a loss of control because perspiration takes place independent of temperature and emotional state.
My daughter's doing well. I do notice her hands and feet sweating more. I try to balance being an annoying mom and letting her deal with it all on her own. So far she's going with over the counter antiperspirant. If she used it more regularly (2x/day) I think she'd be drier.
And so far, alternating two pairs of shoes works to let one dry out.
Her dad (we're divorced) dealt with chronic fungal infections...she hasn't had any yet.
Thanks for responding!
Her father, her aunt and grandfather all have it. None have been officially diagnosed. As far as I know, none have sought treatment. No, I take that back, her grandfather once took antifungal pills...that was probably 20 years ago. Her father's had chronic off and on athlete's foot for decades.
I'm trying to stay ahead of the game with my daughter. I first noticed wet socks when she was about 8-9. I wasn't sure until about 11, and that's when I bought her the antiperspirant and encouraged her to start using it.
I'm riding the line between being an annoying parent, and not wanting it to get out of control.
I did ask the pediatrician at her last visit. I'm trying to get her to be used to talking to doctors about it. The doctor said to let them know if she needed anything stronger.
Aside from that it's rotating shoes and trying to get her to use the antiperspirant on both her hands and feet twice a day. I figure if she starts being bothered by it, she'll use it more on her own.
I joined here, mostly looking for other tips. Things to watch out for. Ways to help.
From what I've been reading, it's actually pretty common. People just tend not to talk about it.
