To begin, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to read our story and I greatly appreciate any comments and support!
For 6 months now, my fiance has suffered with hyperacusis and tinnitus. It has been a long struggle and we are doing our best to get through each day. I am doing my best at staying strong and positive for him. At this point, he is ready to give up and is afraid to research support groups because of some stories he has read of people suffering for 10+ years, sinking him into a deeper depression. So, I have decided to try to reach out for him, praying for some positive feedback. Here is his story:
Music is his passion, his career. He kicked off the year of 2012 with his very first record deal where his first album is set to be released sometime this month. Luckly, he was able to record the whole album before his ear problems began to set in. Which, I'm sure you can imagine his pain and saddness now that he is suffering and unable to enjoy what should be the most exciting moment of his life, possibly a song on the radio! Giving up on his dream is the last thing he wants, but to him it is slowly approching. After being diagnosed with hyperacusis and trying to figure out treatments and different remedies to help him go about each day, he is becoming very stressed and depressed that nothing is helping. He has gotten to where he can't sleep at night and doesn't want to face the day.
I am seeking any kind of possitive stories from musicians who have prevailed through this. He needs some encouragement, some glimpse of hope. He needs someone to talk to that is going through this same thing. Are there any support groups in near Dallas, TX that he could join? He mentioned to me that just talking to someone with this problem could help him get through some days.

I am a musician of sorts, got hyperacusis nearly 5 years ago.I thought my life was over and have been through serious depression and anxiety.I listern to pink noise and I seek quiet places, beaches and parks where it is less noisy.I have had to learn to live with being so sound sensitive.I have found ways to cope.My hearing is slowly improving but I am still very sensitive. Some days are better then others.I can listen to some music nowadays but no rock and roll,I only listen to soft music.Life is precious, no matter what anyone says don't give up.I find meditation helpful and staying off alcohol and coffee helps.I have read of people who have almost completely recovered, not sure how but there are a few treatments out there, some are too expensive for me but if you can afford it the Pawel Jastreboff method seems to work for some, you probably know of it by now anyway.I Got my pink noise discs I from The Hyperacusis Network.Love and warm regards to you both, hope you are fairing well, remember there are others with hyperacusis that want to connect and help.
