Hello all. I'm a 47 year old woman who was dx with severe hydrocephalus due to a tectal glioma blocking my CF exit. I had an ETV done in 2016 but it wasn't working as well as we needed it to, so I had a VP shunt placed on 03/16/17. It's been uncomfortable- tight, pulling,my actual ear hurts (not inside, the ear itself). I am also fighting extreme fatigue. It doesn't matter how much I sleep, it's not enough. I'm back to work full time (returned to work on 4/13/17)
I had a routine CT done last week and surgeon said that the shunt has shifted and must come out and be replaced within the next 2-3 weeks (scheduled for 5/17). I'm sure that others have experience with this, and I'd like to talk to them. I don't know if the discomfort that I'm feeling is due to the shifting shunt or if it's just normal post op "getting used to it" discomfort. If you've had an issue with the shunt shifting, or with discomfort and extreme fatigue, I'd like to talk to you. Thank you.
Sorry to hear your struggling. I had a VP shunt placed after a cyst removal surgery in January of this year, and I have had extreme fatigue, pain and discomfort in the abdomen and some headaches. I did have tightness in my neck in the first couple of months after surgery, but that has mostly gone now, only feeling a bit tight now if I turn my head to the opposite side too quickly. That must be hard being so tired at work. I have a 15 month old and I struggle with the fatigue daily.
