Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...
In 2018, I was tested again and I had another normal pap smear but another positive HPV test so since it was 2 positive HPV tests in 2 years, I had a colposcopy. The colposcopy showed CIN2 so then I had to have a LEEP. I just had the LEEP 10 days ago to remove the abnormal cells on the cervix. However, the virus can become active again, at any time. The virus is forever, you never really totally get rid of it.
The HPV virus can lie dormant in your body for years! My doctor had a 70 yr old patient that hadnt had sex in DECADES that had HPV become active again after being dormant for literally decades! You dont have to sleep with someone new, you could have been infected with HPV from previous sex partners and you didnt even realize or know that you were infected.
You could have got it from the first person, the last person or any person in between because the virus doesnt always cause symptoms and the virus can be dormant and become active at any time.
I proceed with the belief that I am ALWAYS potentially contagious since I have been infected HPV and HPV is FOREVER. HPV is always in your body either active or dormant and there is no way to determine the precise moment when you go from dormant to active. I think anyone that knows they have the HPV has the responsibility to tell any and all intimate partners that they have HPV. It is the responsible thing to do. Dont you wish someone told YOU that they had HPV before they gave it to you? The reason why HPV is so prevalent is because people are passing it on to others, either recklessly, intentionally, or unintentionally. I think people have the right to know whether or not you have a HPV BEFORE they make the decision to be intimate with you.
I had the vaccines when I was younger, shouldn’t that have helped?
So if I tell my ex sexual partners for their girlfriends to get HPV tested they’ll be able to know if they have it? And it’s just an extra test with their Pap smear?
The HPV test is an extra test that comes with the pap smear that you have to specifically request. I had NORMAL pap smear results at the same exact time I had positive HPV tests. A woman can have a normal pap smear AND a positive HPV test at the exact same time. I did for two years in a row.
The HPV test only can show ACTIVE HPV infections it cannot determine whether you have been exposed to HPV, it can NOT determine whether you have inactive HPV. The reason why HPV is so prevalent is because HPV is FOREVER. It is either active or inactive and there is no way to know or determine that specific moment in time when the HPV changes from inactive to active. Today you can be inactive and tomorrow active. There is no way to determine from moment to moment what your genuine HPV status is.
Knowing the precise moment in time HPV changes from inactive to active is indeterminable - there can be no symptoms and there is no definitive test so there is no way to know who truly is HPV free.
HPV is spread from skin to skin contact - including oral sex. Actual intercourse is not required so people who say they are "safe" because they never had "sex" are fooling themselves. Any skin to skin contact, including oral sex, puts you at risk for HPV (both the high risk and low risk strains)
HPV is FOREVER, having an "inactive" test result on an HPV test does NOT mean you are no longer contagious. Anyone that has ever had a positive HPV test is potentially contagious and I believe has the duty and personal responsibility to inform their potential partner BEFORE any skin to skin contact. HPV can cause emotional, physical, and financial damage and I think it is completely irresponsible and malicious to knowingly withhold your HPV history with someone.
ALL potential partners should be educated about the genuine risks of HPV BEFORE you have any skin to skin contact, including oral sex. I know that I can change from inactive to active at any moment in time without knowing it so I view myself as ALWAYS being potentially contagious. I do not want to ever inflict HPV on anyone else. HPV has caused me enormous amounts of pain - emotional, physical, and financial and I would never want to do inflict that suffering on anyone else.
