Hey ladies, I just found out today I have HPV. I had an abnormal PAP so I was asked if I would like to test for HPV. I went ahead with the test and got the horrible results today. Does anybody know the chances of this being pre cancer or cancer? (Any stats?) Iam having a biopsy Wednesday the 25th of April. The name of my abnormal cells are Atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS). I would really appreciate any input. I haven't stopped crying since I received the result of my arm normal Pap test. I am 33 years old and I have a 4 yr old little girl. I have been married for 8nyrs. I am terrified as I'm sure everyone that gets a HPV diagnosis is. Any comments would really be appreciated

Does your doctor actually use the words "scary HPV" ? The medical term is high-risk HPV strains. The words we use influence our emotions and feelings so I think maybe you should consider calling it high-risk HPV and not calling it scary HPV. I have high-risk HPV and I know it IS scary but you dont want to keep reminding yourself that it is scary. I am not trying to trivialize your reality. I have been very scared since I was told I have HPV but we all can benefit from having a Warrior Mindset. The words we use influence how we feel and how we feel influences the actions we take. We want to become Warriors not Worriers. I am not trying to minimizing the real reality that HPV IS definitely a big deal and scary. I have to have a LEEP in June after my colposcopy came back CIN 2 so I am trying to develop the Warrior mindset myself.

During my recent LEEP they removed all abnormal cells. I am thankful, but the battle isn't over because there will be future pap smears. Most women will have normal pap smears from now on. I hope I am one of them. What really bothers me is the way I feel different from most people. I think that 23% of adults have high-risk hpv.

I am having a LEEP in June. Do you have a lot of bleeding and discharge? I'm a Massage Therapist which is a very physically demanding job and I'm worried about going back to work after my two days off. I had endometriosis and took hormones to stop my period since I was 35 and now I am in menopause (I'm 51 now) so I havent had a period in 16 years so I am not looking forward to bleeding. I hope it doesnt interfere with my job. I need to work to pay all of these expensive medical bills.

I had the LEEP on April 10 and there was only a moderate amount of watery-brown discharge (no blood). Then I started my period on April 13, so I didn't see the brown discharge at that time. I am still on my period (due to perimenopause) so I still don't see the brown color. As far as going back to work in two days, I am not sure. My doctor told me there was no activity restriction except intercourse. I felt sore for about 1 day and then felt pretty good for a week. Then I went up and down some stairs and felt pretty sore again for about a week after that. Lifting too much, stairs, bending over and sitting caused most of my soreness. Stooping down was okay though. I am putting a folded blanket and a chair cushion on top of each other and sitting on that to ease the soreness.

It was difficult trying to be a warrior when I was waiting for my biopsy results. But it was at that time that I increased my raw vegetables and raw fruit. I wasn't able to go vegan because I felt anemic, but I would if I could. I am also trying to drink more hot tea and less soda pop, and less processed food. I hope this is enough to have a normal pap smear in 4 months.

Last year when I got the surprise news that I had HPV I was told to give up any bad habits so I gave up soda last year. I just stopped drinking all soda that day and I havent had even a sip of soda since that day. I also added 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week in addition to my massage work which is very physical. I've been vegan since 1990 but even with all of that I still tested positive for HPV AGAIN this year! It is difficult to be a warrior! My biopsy came back CIN 2 and my LEEP is Monday June 4th. I'm trying to focus on getting adequate sleep and reducing stress this year. Also, reducing sugar which is extremely difficult because sugar is in so much of everything and I like to reward myself on the weekends with a "goodie". I added Turkey Tail Mushroom supplements that supposedly help the immune system clear viruses and even has had success helping women recover after breast cancer surgery but who knows if the supplements will help or not. I am trying to stay as calm as possible but it is difficult because I have a $6,300 deductible and these medical bills are creating financial stress and adding to my anxiety.
