Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...
Part of the reason why I have is sooo much anger and resentment towards him for giving me HPV is that we had an argument about his wastoid high school drop out son who is very disruptive in our relationship and we officially broke up for about two weeks but we got back together after we both cooled off from the argument. Well, during the two weeks that we were broken up he had sex with his wastoid high school drop out son's teacher!!! We had been together for 3 years and during those 3 years the pap smear and HPV test was negative, but AFTER he had sex with his wastoid high school drop out son's teacher my HPV test was positive which is why I'm fairly certain that my current boyfriend got HPV from sex with the teacher and then passed it on to me.
Most of the anger is from him having sex with the teacher but it's even worse that he passed on a deadly virus that is costing me sooo much time, energy, worry and EXPENSIVE MEDICAL BILLS. I have a $6,300 deductible so I've had to pay for all these HPV treatment myself. I have to have a LEEP in June and pay for that too.
Part of the reason I stay with this boyfriend is who knows when my HPV will become dormant and who knows if or when it changes from dormant back to active and I become contagious again. I would NEVER want to pass HPV on to anyone. Also, who knows if the next guy I have sex with doesnt have a different strain of high risk HPV and I'll get infected again. The nurse told me she has patients that go through all this and their very next partner re-infects them with another strain of high-risk HPV! There are several strains of high-risk HPV, you can be re-infected with a different strain and have this nightmare start all over again!
I know it sounds pathetic that I'm with him - in part - because we both have the same HPV strains so he cant re-infect me again. I'm fairly certain he wont cheat on me because he actually does feel bad that he gave me HPV. I've made it perfectly clear that if he ever wants to have sex with some other woman then he better have the common basic human decency to just break up and move up rather than cheat on me and give me another strain of HPV or some other disease. I think he is scare of HPV also. I told him men can get penis cancer from HPV and they have to have their penises cut off - that scared him.
The nurse told me that she has several patients that go through the repeat paps, repeat HPV tests, colposcopy, the LEEP, and finally have their HPV become dormant only to get re-infected with a different strain from the very next person that they have sex with.
It seems like it would be very difficult to find a partner that has only the very same strain (or strains) of HPV that you happen to have, especially when many men dont even know they have HPV. Many men dont have any symptoms at all and there is no commonly used screening test for men. so many men only know they HPV when their partner happens to tell him. Even women that know they have HPV dont always know the specific number of the strain (or strains) they are infected with.
Younger people that had the vaccine are protected for only 2 - 9 strains of HPV depending on which vaccine they had and there are over 100 different HPV strains so even the vaccinated people are at some risk. The vaccine is still worth having but it doesnt fully protect you against all strains of HPV.
I dont know what the answer is. I hope there will be medical breakthroughs that could better prevent, detect, and treat HPV but until then, it seems like a big gamble to have sex with someone new because either you will infect them or they will infect you and neither of those options sound good to me.
