Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...
When I think of sex, I think of: disease, horribly expensive medical bills, time consuming and uncomfortable doctor visits, money lost from missed work and the grossness associated with warts and the LEEP (bleeding, cramps, vaginal discharge) I have no sexual urges, on the contrary, the thought of sex repulses me now.
I am turning 52 in September so I'm old. I feel bad for the young people here with HPV because, like you mentioned, you are now contagious and can endanger all future partners you're with. It's worse to lie or say nothing because if you dont tell the person BEFORE you have ANY skin to skin contact with them and they find out that you infected them with HPV then you will not only have your own guilt and bad karma to deal with, but you will also most likely have resentment and hatred being directed towards from the person you infected. Justifiably so, if you have something contagious then it is your moral obligation to tell them BEFORE you have any skin to skin contact so they can learn the facts about HPV and decide for themselves what level of risk they are willing to accept.
It is far better to deal with the disappointment of being rejected at the beginning of a relationship than to deal with the shame, guilt, and hatred you will most likely get if you fail to disclose or you choose to lie about having a contagious virus and then give HPV to someone else.
I have lost money from missed time at work, I have had my days off consumed with doctor appointments, I have had invasive and painful medical treatments and I've already spent almost $2000 on medical bills and I have an expensive LEEP scheduled on June 4th. My boyfriend did not now he had HPV and I STILL have resentment and anger towards him. IF HE KNEW HE HAD HPV AND MADE THE SELFISH AND EVIL CHOICE TO NOT TELL ME - I CANT EVEN TELL YOU WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE!
I think anyone that knows they have HPV needs to have BASIC HUMAN DECENCY to specifically tell all potential partners that they have HPV since it is contagious. They need to help the other person learn the facts of HPV and allow the other person to make their own personal and informed choice whether they want to have ANY skin to skin contact with you or not. HPV is transmitted via skin to skin contact - including oral sex. My boyfriend has genital warts all over his groin and pelvic area, the base of his penis, and near his scrotum and condoms only cover the penis itself so condoms are NOT 100% effective in preventing the transmission of HPV. You can pass on HPV even if you use condoms correctly so dont be fooled into thinking you're not contagious if you use condoms - you STILL are contagious - even with a condom!
I had a doctor (a dermatologist) show me all of my boyfriend's genital warts and some of the warts were very small, some were buried in pubic hair, some of the warts did NOT even look like warts at all. EVEN WITH A DOCTOR POINTING TO THE SPECIFIC WARTS THEY WERE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE. You cannot rely on your untrained eye to see genital warts.
Please do the right thing for yourself and others and do not lie about having HPV and tell ALL potential partners you have HPV virus BEFORE you have any skin to skin contact. HPV lives in the skin cells so you dont need intercourse to pass it on.
There is no way to determine when inactive HPV will wake up and turn into active HPV so you people who think they arent contagious because their HPV is "inactive" are wrong. No one knows if or when you transform from active to inactive. You can have dormant HPV for 20 years that becomes active -there is no way to know or determine the moment you change from inactive to active so the correct assumption is you are forever contagious and to act accordingly. Please do not jeopardize the health and well-being of others with short-sighted selfishness.
