Human papillomavirus is a diverse group of DNA-based viruses that infect the skin and mucous membranes of humans. More than 100 different human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been characterized. Some HPV types cause benign skin warts, or papillomas, for which the virus family is named. HPVs associated with the development of such "common warts" are transmitted...
I took my boyfriend to the dermatologist because I thought he had genital warts and he did! The MAJORITY of the genital warts were in his groin area and NOT on the shaft or head of the penis that is covered by a condom! SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT IS HOW HPV IS TRANSMITTED! EVEN USING CONDOMS FAITHFULLY EVERY TIME AND CORRECTLY EVERY TIME DOES NOT PROTECT YOU FROM GETTING HPV (EITHER WARTS OR THE HIGH RISK STRAINS LINKED WITH CANCER!!)
My boyfriend had genital warts on his scrotum, on the base of his penis, in his pubic hair area, the area just below his belly button, the area near the inner thigh, under his scrotum and his pubic area! The majority of the warts were very small about the size of a lentil (maybe about 4 mm in diameter) There dermatologist had to point them out to me - there were so small and hidden that I NEVER would have seen the majority of them looking with the unaided and untrained eye!!
I specifically asked about touching it with the hand and the dermatologist said the scratching and masturbating can spread the HPV warts in the genital area. He did - of course - recommend through hand washing with hot soapy water, rubbing the soapy hands under the stream of water for a minimum of 20 -30 seconds (the standard health car hand washing protocol) but he said in the majority of relatively healthy, non-immunological depressed people, they dont seem to get it on their hands for some reason. However, in HIV patients, cancer patients, people with immunological suppressed systems from malnutrition or chronic debilitating disease HPV can run rampant and spread to other areas of the body.
After I discovered my boyfriend had genital warts (in addition to the high risk HPV he infected me with) I went to the gynecologist and had her examine me for genital warts. Shockingly, she did not find a single wart. I was shocked that I had repeated exposure for 4 years and even though I now have the HPV virus that causes the warts, I did not have any warts at the present moment that the doctor examine me.
I recommend you go to the doctor for a thorough exam. If you havent had a pap smear and a HPV test for the high risk strains of HPV I recommend you have that too. I had a NORMAL pap smear at the exact same time I had a positive HPV test, two years in a row. I had to have a colposcopy and a LEEP. I have BOTH the high risk AND the low risk strains of HPV.
REMEMBER - HPV IS FOREVER! There is no way to know the exact moment in time when the HPV virus changes from inactive to active. I strongly believe that everyone that has any kind of HPV (either the warts or the high risk strains) has a moral obligation, duty, and responsibility to inform ALL POTENTIAL PARTNERS BEFORE ANY SKIN TO SKIN CONTACT (INCLUDING ORAL SEX) OCCURS! HPV (both high risk and low risk strains) are spread with skin to skin contact, including oral sex and CONDOMS DO NOT PREVENT THE SPREAD OF HPV BECAUSE HPV IS PRESENT IN THE SKIN CELLS OF THE ENTIRE GENITAL AND GROIN AREA)
Anyone that has had any kind of HPV should fully inform and educate ALL potential partners about the GENUINE RISKS AND LIFE LONG CONSEQUENCES of HPV. I have had severe emotional, physical, and financial consequences as a direct result of being infected with HPV and I would NEVER want to inflict this suffering on anyone!
The doctor used liquid nitrogen to freeze off his warts and gave him some wart cream to use BUT the wart cream was very harsh and ended up giving him a horrible rash that was significantly worse than the warts themselves!! He would have been better off just having the warts (they were tiny the size of lentils, maybe 3-5 mm in diameter) because the warts didnt itch or burn, he had no bothersome symptoms from the warts at all and now 3 weeks later he still has the horrible rash from the wart cream.
Sometimes the treatment can be worse than the warts which was definitely the case for my boyfriend. His scrotum and penis is swollen and inflamed with a horrible rash. It hurts him to just put on underwear. The rubbing of his clothes causes him intense pain which has been going on for 3 weeks now. He does not use the wart cream any more, now he has to use another lotion to treat the rash. He is getting better, but very slowly and he is in a lot of pain.
The freezing them off with liquid nitrogen did not bother him, it was the wart cream that caused the damage. I would be very careful about what you try.
The doctor told him to avoid touching the warts and no scratching and no masturbating either because rubbing the area of the wart can spread the virus to other areas of the genitals.
