I have had genital warts for 4 months now, and after 12 sessions of cryosurgery/cryotherapy (freezing with liquid nitrogen), I am finally almost free of what used to be a horrific cluster of genital warts on either side of my labia, some around my anus, and some dotted at random around the area. Having the warts was never a painless experience for me. They'd produce this itchy/tingling/pricking sensation in the area almost constantly. The itch - which was like a crawling itch sensation - would at times be unbearable. Problem is, although I am almost free of warts, I am still experiencing pain/discomfort in the area, as if the warts are still there. Is this common? I always assumed that the pain/strange sensations was due to the warts, themselves, but I'm wondering if it's the virus/infection underneath the skin that's causing the pain. My question, then, is the following:

Is it common for the area of skin which was once covered in genital warts, to still be itchy/painful after the warts have gone? If so, what is the average waiting time for this pain/discomfort to slowly disappear?
