The pain lessens and the tears subside. Life takes on new meaning, new purpose. New friends are made and old friends are appreciated more. Seasons change and the past becomes a little fuzzy. Summer of 2012 has its memories, but mostly good ones, not chemo and blood transfusions. It was the summer of the trip to New York. The last trip we took. The summer I took my daughter to New Orleans to look around. The summer I became independent.
Housework must be done. Homework must be done. Pets cared for. Garage sales and donations. Meals cooked using new recipes.
New holidays to be enjoyed with family, friends and laughs and drinks and FOOD! Music is what it was before, invoking feelings of love and celebrations "Celebrate Good Times, COME ON! Let's Celebrate!" "Joy to the World, the Lord has come".
Old wounds are healed. Those people once thought gone forever return and love happens. It's cozier because that gap has closed. Every wound heals with a scar, making it a little bit tougher. And that's what has happened here. Those wounds are healing. New life is around every corner. New relationships. Even with old acquaintances, they become new relationships.
Every piece of me that I discover I love. Every day I am amazed at what life has to offer when I am willing to put down the past and not wield it as a shield to protect me from the outside world. My daughter is now in dance class. Last week, she danced on a football field in front of a crowd after learning the dance one time. She was afraid to make mistakes, but she risked it anyway and smiled the entire time. She inspired me.

Thank you for sharing your "new" outlook. I especially am inspired by the words: "Every day I am amazed at what life has to offer when I am willing to put down the past and not wield it as a shield to protect me from the outside world. " I, too, was using the past as a "shield." No more! Life IS marvelous when you finally make it out of the abyss and to the top of the mountain.
