Hives Support Group
Hives is a relatively common form of allergic reaction that causes raised red skin welts. These welts can range in diameter from 5 mm (0.2 inches) or more, itch severely, and often have a pale border. Urticaria is generally caused by direct contact with an allergenic substance, or an immune response to food or some other allergen. Hives can also be caused by stress.

Im going on a vacation in a few weeks and already im feeling upset about being in a bathingsuit. last year I cancelled because of this. I have hives on my stomach and legs and feel like everyone will be staring. My husband thinks Im nuts. and that they are not that noticable, but to me they are. Im also concerned about being on a plane for 5 hours and having a real bad time with the itchness. I feel like my life has taken a turn for the worse since this all started last year. How do you cope????

i would be more concerned about the sun on your skin than the hives. For me the sun can make them so much worse. You can wear long linen pants and a wrapped skirt and just drop them right before you jump in the water. dont cancel just accommodate yourself so you feel good.

starrsam, I feel your pain! You could try to get some prednisoine from the dr. for your vacation, That will make them go away (I takes about 3-4 hours for the prednisone to kick in and take the hives away, but then they're gone for about a day!) It can be hard to get it from the Dr. but if you go on a day when the hives are REALLY bad you should have an easier time.. doctors just don't understand! My mom says the same thing, that 'they aren't that noticeable'... but it doesn't matter, we are going to feel self conscience about it b/c they are the most noticeable thing in the world for someone who has hives! I often wonder where my life might have gone if I didn't have this... I don't take risks or go places... I want to study abroad! but dont want to deal with this embarrassment and have no where to hide .. But Don't let the hives rule your life. Try watching what you are eating, i have been doing a lot of reading... artificial sweeteners, caffeine, and even gluten could be causes.. but who knows! Just keep your head up.. I have hope it wont be like this forever.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
