Highly Sensitive People HSP Community Group
The highly sensitive person (or HSP) is someone who cares deeply about everything ... feels emotions with great intensity ... is highly conscientious ... has a rich and complex inner life ... is very intuitive ... is often creative in a variety of ways... is easily overwhelmed and/or overstimulated. A HSP needs lots of quiet time, space, and freedom. If this sounds...
I agree with everything you mentioned ... but I don't talk out loud to myself. Yes, I constantly ruminate in my mind. I try to focus on the positive but it's not always easy. It would be interesting if anyone else comments on this.
for me it's the same as it is for Janvier.
I talk a lot to myself, I even sometimes argue in my mind. But I don't let it show. I keep it to myself. It's the same way with the day dreams. It's my inner voice that talks.
It's good that you know the situations in which this happens. My advice: the next time you get in a situation like this be aware of it and then you have a few options: 1. keep busy (talk to colleagues, sort things, clean, what so ever), 2. close your mouth, just keep it by yourself, 3. put something in your mouth like an apple, a bonbon/ candy, anything just to keep your mouth busy, 4. put on a headset (maybe not at work, but it might keep people from thinking you're crazy because it seems you talk to someone else)
I don't talk out loud to myself, sorry for not being more specific about that, i just move my lips, like talking very silently but the people around me notice that sometimes, even if i don't do it loud, it's still obvious for them that i'm talking to myself and since we Hsps seems to care a lot about what other people think of us, you know how it is.
To be honest with you, the thing i hate most about the HS trait is that we care a lot about what others think of us or what are saying about us, that's the aspect i'm working on the most, i'm struggling but i think i'm making progress in that way, except that i am very positive about the trait even if sometimes it seems like a curse, in fact i love it, it makes me feel very special, it sill offer us some qualities that are very rare this days like honesty, loyality and originality.
At night when I have this issue I usually listen to guided sleep meditations, or music that I really enjoy. Most of the time that will distract me.
I am actually starting to get over the issue of caring too much about what other people think. I just take a step back and realize that we're all the same. We're all made of the same thing, we're all going to end up the same way. Might as well breathe and do what I feel.
Do you experience something like that, too?
I try always to avoid caring whenever it is possible, it depends on the situation, the person and how close it is to me and the context, it seems that the more i force myself to do it the easier it becomes to do it again, then people start to respect you more and respect your choices and your boundaries get stronger at least that's what i'm experiencing on a daily basis, still struggling sometimes but i will keep fighting my mirror neurons.
Agree with what Sam is doing in practicing not caring, as strange as it sounds, depending on the person of course. I felt I needed to bring down the level of stuff that enters my field. If I care of everything and everyone and how they feel, I cannot care for myself as I should. That was what I needed to shift in how I deal with my sensitivity. Our systems are wired differently and can only handle so much and I have been in a state of burnout for at least 5 years. Working on healing myself and starting to get better now.
Regarding the fact you speak out loud or by mooving your lips, it is actually a sign of intelligence, meaning you need to listen to what you say in order to check it is working. You are not just talking, but thinking it and checking it.
I'm sorry for what you have been throw "lynmarie7" i respect the fact that you are focusing on your own needs because you feel to do so, actually you are as much important as the people you care about that's why selfcare is so much important for Hsps , because we too are important, we don't have to neglect our own needs to meet the needs of other people.
Movies and series are a good solution "nor007" i enjoy watching my favourite ones too unless what's happening in the screen is not interesting then my mind starts surfing away without me noticing...
Your explanation about talking to myslef makes sense to me but i have to admit that sometimes my brain bugs and i feel stupid in some situations.
Just understand that non HSP people will not understand these things, and saying it is a sign of craziness that's because it is easier to be mean that to be nice and comprehensive.
Regarding the analysing part, as I already said, there are some interesting things you can take based on valerian and all other relaxing natural plants. I take something called kalms, and when my brain and my feelings goes crazy llike it is currently doing these days, it helps a lot to reduce the overload.
