Highly Sensitive People HSP Community Group
The highly sensitive person (or HSP) is someone who cares deeply about everything ... feels emotions with great intensity ... is highly conscientious ... has a rich and complex inner life ... is very intuitive ... is often creative in a variety of ways... is easily overwhelmed and/or overstimulated. A HSP needs lots of quiet time, space, and freedom. If this sounds...
Did your manager give you examples of what he wanted you to do? Ask him in what way are you timid and for sure get a list of his expectations and also a copy of the eval. I don't know what your job description is so it is hard to give you a suggestion. Did he overall give you a good eval re: your general work conduct? Is this the only thing he complained about?
NO WAY --- do not go to the company psych----that is a huge mistake. Anytime they offer those programs, even though they say they are confidential, they are not. The company will somehow find all the info...I know it is hard to believe.
HUGS to you and best wishes.
Regarding the evaluation, did your boss suggest any way you could improve? If not go back and ask them. See whether for example the company offers training in assertiveness or communication at work. Try and volunteer for things if opportunities come up. Try to think of duties you could take on, if there are any. If there's a meeting, think through what you feel about the agenda before it happens and whether you have any input you can give. These are just examples, I don't know your job so can't say if they apply or not.
Being shy is not a bad thing. But it can prevent you from taking opportunities where you can shine and show your skills and abilities. Only you can know if it is holding you back in this way.
Finally, don't see it as negative criticism, see it as a learning experience. You neevr stop learning and improving yourself through your life, nothing wrong with finding new ways of doing it.
So, unless you are in Sales or work in reception, I think your boss is the one with the issue. Otherwise he/she is misguided in thinking they are helping you and that you even need help.
I would smile and confidently say that I am a quiet, soft spoken person and that you are quite content with this. Perhaps, if they are still narrow minded, add that you will try to talk more if they are so concerned.
But, actually I have tried to open up a little during the last few weeks by joking and talking with my colleagues more than ever and that too before my boss.
Yea, I also can see no result at all why I should not be timid, this is just the way I am. I talk when need be, I do not like talking to all kinds of people, maybe that is what he means.
Well, surely though, for the next goal, if he raises this topic again, I know what to tell him thanks to you Circe 78 and the others for your constructive advice.
Thanks.
