The highly sensitive person (or HSP) is someone who cares deeply about everything ... feels emotions with great intensity ... is highly conscientious ... has a rich and complex inner life ... is very intuitive ... is often creative in a variety of ways... is easily overwhelmed and/or overstimulated. A HSP needs lots of quiet time, space, and freedom. If this sounds...

Hi,
I just joined the group and thought I'd say a few words about myself.
Some might see me as an HSG (G for geek), but even geeks are people.
I'm male, 57, married with a great wife and two really cute daughters.
In many ways I'm not your typical HSP. I have a pretty strong will and have done a lot with my life.
I've traveled and lived abroad on my own for several years, but now I'm happy settled in with my family.
I'm pretty handy: plumbing, electrical, construction, etc. I rebuilt our summer cabin pretty much by myself.
I'm a high school science teacher - not very popular perhaps - but my students usually do well on their exams.
When I took the HSP self test I scored pretty high. I'm quite emotional and easily overwhelmed by my environment. Sad and emotional movies and stories make me cry easily. Inspirational stories about people who did great and generous things also are hard for me to listen to without breaking down. There are stories that I'd like to tell but I get so choked up, that I hesitate. Although I've worked with machinery in noisy environments, crowds and noisy groups of people really put me on edge. I'm usually the one by himself at parties, which I hardly ever go to anymore.
Although I enjoy being with my family (we do a lot together) I spend most of my free time alone. Outside of my family, I can't really say that I have any friends. I get along well with a neighbor whom I see a lot during the summer at the cabin. And I have had a friend since elementary school. I must have offended him because I haven't been able to get him to commit to getting together for over a year.
I enjoy deeper discussions. I'm not the type to Twitter or use Facebook - I find the "Hi, how are ya?" kind of conversations pretty shallow. I have interests that range from science, to adventures, to spirituality, but can't find anyone to talk with. Despite my loving family, I guess I'm lonely, looking for friends and not knowing where to start. I suppose that's why I'm here.
By the way, my chosen pseudonym: sensci has several meanings. It's related to sensei, Japanese for teacher, but I also look at it as sen (leader) of sci (science). I pronounce it "sensai", which in Japanese it means sensitive and easily damaged. I'd like to remain anonymous, because if I get into any personal issues or those about work, well I'd rather not have people there know its me.
Thanks for reading.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
I don't want to discourage you from this group but if you are interested in deep discussions and another option this website is very interesting and fulfilling as well. http://www.quora.com
I find science to be very interesting, it was one of my more enjoyable classes while attending high school and college. Its great that you pursued science as your career-- following your passions is important.
I understand the feeling of always wanting something more and to find that novelty of life- As I am always seeking this myself, learning new things and exploring new options. Never stop learning has always been my motto.
I've traveled and lived abroad.." You are not alone in the HSP group who have this description. Many of us do not allow our personalities to stop us and withdraw. There is a wide range of people here. We have discussed this topic where some withdraw and others are more aggressive and outgoing HSPs. I also go through many mood changes because of my sensitive nature. I both like being alone and like traveling. I can be very outgoing and very solitary. Welcome to the group.
