and yes you are right, most cholesterol medication has poor results. i've tried a bunch and the best combination that i have used seems to be increase in omega oils, less processed foods, more vegetables, more grains. unfortunately, i wander away then my cholesterol rises.
it seems also that the older i get, the easier for my cholesterol to go up and the harder it is to go down. kind of like my weight. it goes on real easy but is extremely hard to get rid of.
yes, i wish there was some magic pill that caused cholesterol to go down and the HDL to go up. but i also wonder if there really is a good enough connection between high cholesterol and CHD. most of the heart patients i know have good cholesterol levels. they also have high blood pressure. i on the other hand have lousy cholesterol levels and low blood pressure. is there a connection there?
who knows. sometimes i don't think that the cardiologists and dieticians know either. they seem to go on what the drug companies have been touting for so many years...hm...wonder why?
Again, cholesterol is not the Villian here. Half of all heart attacks occur in people with low and normal cholesterol. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out.
But the cholesterol lowering market is a 50 billion dollar per year business, and as long as we the people believe that lowering cholesterol will protect us from cardiovascular disease, the cash flow will be there.
But I tell you the truth. If all the profits from cholesterol lowering remedies were to vanish overnight, by morning nobody would be advising us to lower our cholesterol.
