High cholesterol is the presence of high levels of cholesterol in the blood. It is not a disease but a metabolic derangement that can be secondary to many diseases and can contribute to many forms of disease, most notably cardiovascular disease. Statins, in general, are a minefield full of side effects many of which are very dangerous. I recommend that you study up on the subject before taking any other types. More than likely, your doctor will want you to try everyone in the book.
Below is a link to a great site that really digs into statins. The site owner is a retired family doctor who decided to join NASA as a flight surgeon on the ISS and Space Shuttle. NASA put him on Lipitor and it nearly killed him. The really sad part, there never was a good reason for him to be placed on a statin in the first place.
