The slogan "Fight Cholesterol" certainly does give the consumer the image cholesterol is a villain, and that we should fight it. But is this accurate?
Another Popular TV Ad states "If you have high cholesterol, you may be at risk for heart attack" Very clever words! Keyword "may". Its a true statement. Yes, if you have high cholesterol you may be at risk for a heart attack. But so is the person with low cholesterol equally at risk for a heart attack. But they don't come out and tell you that. Instead, they let the viewer assume because his/ her cholesterol is above the stated range, they are at an increased risk for a heart attack.
A print Ad from a long time ago shows a dead guy with a tag on his toe. The wording makes reference to a cholesterol test, giving the reader the impression a simple cholesterol test would have saved his life. Does an Ad like that paint a picture of cholesterol as an evil villain?
