High Blood Pressure Support Group
Hypertension or high blood pressure is a medical condition wherein the blood pressure is chronically elevated. Persistent hypertension is one of the risk factors for strokes, heart attacks, heart failure and arterial aneurysm, and is a leading cause of chronic renal failure. Doctors recommend weight loss and regular exercise as the first steps in treating mild to moderate...
bigi, I know what you mean about Dr. Oz. Isnt he the nicest doctor ever? My mom just loves him. I dont get to watch him much but I do have some of his books. He is an extraordinary man who is amazingly humble. We need more of him that is for sure!!!
my pulse is around 50 and bp about 130/80 now im also on 320mg beta bloker
As a matter of fact my neph. doc said that he thinks that stress is causing my high bp. I know that when I have been stressed in the past and have taken my bp it was high. Therefore maybe he is right. I just dont see how my bp could be continually high for 9 weeks before the 4 different types of meds I am currently taking kicked in. I would think every now and then or maybe in the beginning but there were so many moments when I was NOT STRESSED AT ALL. I became numb to the whole thing and as a matter of fact it seems to me that those 9 weeks were not real. I barely remember them. (I am able to do this though). Im just so frustrated because they always do this to women (no offense to you being a guy and all). I am sure you know what I am talking about.....they are always saying, "Oh you have high bp? Well it must be stress. Oh you have fibromyalgia? Well it must be depression, anxiety and stress. Then when it is men they just keep looking. It is not fair to women at all.
How is your new diuretic treating you? I hope it is helping. I know that my mom ONLY takes a diuretic, one very similar to yours, and it has gotten her blood pressure so low that sometimes she is concerned because it seems too low! Be careful though because they can cause your heart to beat too fast or for your heart to have palpitations. My neph doc prescribed me a diuretic because I called and asked him what he thought about the fact that I still have so much water retention and ankle nd hand swelling. Well he gave me a diuretic that I specifically told him I could not take because it causes my heart to beat too fast. I still have not started it because quite honestly I am AFRAID too! But dont worry too much because I remember my pharmacist told me that only .1% of people have this problem and of course I would be in that low stats group! Well take care and let me know how you are faring!
Dont worry one bit about your pulse. It is absolutly normal. For 2 reasons. 1)anything between 60--100 bpm is normal and 2)I did an amazing amount of research on this issue since my original post was exactly about this issue. My bp would go very high and yet my pulse would plummet. Then my bp is normal now (due to 4 different kinds of meds) and my heart rate is up again to between 80--100. What I found out is this: Your heart rate actually helps to regulate your bp. You see when you are experiencing high bp your body knows that the bp needs to be controlled so it does all of these little checks and balances to keep it low. One of the things it does is send a message to your heart to slow down. When your heart does slow down it will not be pumping out blood as fast or as forcefully as before. This is a good thing because your arteries are narrowing and causing your blood "pressure" to push harder through your veins, if the heart is slowing down the blood flow then it wont actually be "pushing" so hard through your veins.
Imagine an old fashioned thin green plastic water hose. Imagine that it has been sitting out in the Texas heat for 10 summers and its pretty beat up but you cant afford a new one so this one has to do. Now you know you have to water your yard but you also know that if you try to turn on the water full blast it will rush throgh and could create holes in your old hose. If you keep the water low it will do its job like its supposed to do. Now say you go off to the store and you buy a brand new water hose. You know you can turn the water up on this one because when you do it will work fine. It wont create holes. The body regulates everything! It is very amazing. Its just a shame that I have had high bp for over 11 years and no doctor saw fit to let me have this information when I have asked repeatedly aout my low pusle and high bp.
He then added Toprol XL, he said that wouldn't lower my pulse rate like the atenolol...He recently had to up it to 50 mg and added HCTZ 25 mg as I'm still getting a high reading.
I've NEVER been on 3 meds to control my BP!!!! I also have to take potassium since I'm on the diuretic!! Crazy
