Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation,...
I have been back and forth to doctors since i was 16 over this. Giant cysts that were extremely painfull. For the first 10 years they said bad acne and put me on medication for it. It helped a little probably because I had acne too. Time goes on and the cysts become more painfull and painfull. They get to the point where I can't get out of bed for a day or 2. I go back to the doctor and they slice them open and say come back tomorrow. Do that and within a week I am back to square one. This was a dermatologist by the way. He says I may have hidradenitis suppurativa. He sends me to a specialist because the infected area is near my rectum (actually just right on my tail bone).
Well I go to him and he says nope you dont have that disease. He lasers off about a walnut size of flesh and I try to stay in good spirits and since its near my butt I call it my second Butt hole, since you sound literally stick half your finger in it. I had been getting i would say bratwurst sized cysts that went from my tailbone to the start of my scrotum. Extremely painful and when they finally burst I would go into sceptic shock and feel flu like symptoms. It would also be very smelly and very disgusting.
Even after that procedure neither doctor could say if i had HS. Very disheartening.
They put me on every medicine under the sun. None did anything except a few made my stomach feel like I had swallowed razor blades.
They assumed I worked in a dirty environment, I dont, I work in computers which is usually sterile. They asked how much I bathed, 1-2 times a day.
Both doctors basically said there was nothing more they could do yet wouldnt confirm nor deny that I had HS. All I could do was go and see them if I had a bad flare up and they could slice/fry me open to help drain.
Well with their subpar doctor work I looked up myself and found something.
Eating vegetables called NIGHTSHADES can cause people with HS to have much more severe flare ups. They are called nightshades from what I understand because as most plants grow during the day, these actually grow bigger at night.
These include but are not limited to Potatoes, Peppers, Tomatoes, Eggplant, Tobacco, Paprika, and Huckleberries. These are the main ones I can remember. They are also the hardest I found personally to cut out of your diet (unless your a non smoker,,,, I also have no clue what a huckleberry is).
I read this and besides tobacco I cut all of them out of my life. It took a month or 2 but instead of getting bratwurst sized cysts I now get what I call babies, maybe the size of a walnut. They are much more manageable. Yes they do still hurt but not the aggonizing pain of others I have had in the past. If I quit smoking I bet they would get even smaller too. I have been on this restrictive diet for a few years now and instead of having to see the doctor once every month or 2 it has gone up to maybe once every year or so. Dont get me wrong I still have problems. Last one was in an odd spot over my right eyelid that swelled up out of nowhere and made me look like Rocky Balboa in the 19th round. Had to go to a new doc for that because of the location.
Point being, try to cut those items out of your diet. It is hard. Everyone says vegetables are good for you but in my case and I am guessing probably a bunch of yours that eating those is causing more harm than good. Remember you will have to give up things like french fries, potato chips, mashed or baked potatoes, basically any pasta dish with tomato sauce (I do alfredo sauce now), ANYTHING SPICY, most spice is brought on by peppers (I have no proof but I would think the stronger the pepper the more it may affect you, just a guess). You can use things like horseradish if you still want something with a kick though. Cottage cheese with a teaspoon or 2 of horseradish mixed in is a great topping for crackers as a snack, its healthy too.
Been doing this for years now like I said and no more major flare ups. Yes I do get the random new area that baloons but oddly no pain. Yes I do get my little walnut sized cysts too but I have always expected that either way.
If you have already tried this let us know your results. If you havent give it a try, whats the worst that can happen, cant eat some types of food for a bit? If you do try it though give it at least a month. I found it took a bit for my body to get rid of the chemical that is in those foods for it to be properly expelled.
Hope this helps at least 1 person :D
In my case I don't suffer from Hidradenitis suppurativa , but i have noticed under my breast I have a large cyst or boil like lump.
I didn't know what is was until I looked it up online I assumed it was just a cyst . It is very red and inflamed at the minute and is very painful to the touch .
I squeezed it and puss came out of it and I did the same the next day and nothing . But at this stage I have about 3 large lumps which are not visible because they are under the skin but is very red .
If I bend down or reach for something It is very painful .
I thought it might gone away but it hasn't over the past week it is actually more painful from the begining .
I attempted to get a needle to let it drain , I can't even do that now because it is to painful and I get a horrible shooting pain through my Breast .
Does anybody know how long they take to go away on their own or do I really need to see a doctor ??
And do you know can it be drained in the doctors etc ...
I have never gotten this before , so I'm not too sure how to go about it ...
As far as how long they may last it seems to be for me at least until they drain. I have a few cysts that are there and don't bother me. I have one right below my left eyebrow that you can only see if I get a suprised look. I have 2 more on the back of my right earlobe. Since they don't hurt and aren't noticeable I don't bother with them. Mostly because I have had doctors try to open up my earlobe one and it did absolutely nothing. I have also found that even if you think you have gotten rid of one it will come back eventually in the same spot.
You ask if they can be drained by a doctor, well doctors are SUPPOSED to be able. Some I have been to did open me up with scalpels and all but that didn't do the trick. I had to go to specialists that burned them out of me with some special torch or something. It really depends on how deep they go. For me personally I can literally feel the depth of them and know if a treatment will work or not and tell my doctors. They always tell me well we have to start here.
I am hoping for your case that your don't have HS. I officially don't as it seems no doctor wants to diagnose me with that as HS is one of the only skin maladies that qualifies a person for disability. Most doctors don't want to get into having to fill out the paper work for patients to get disabilities. I do a lot of work at doctors offices with my business and see it all the time. They would prefer to cram in too many patients to see a day to make more money than take the time to do the right thing for each patient like write a recommendation letter. This is why they are very hesitant to say someone has a certain condition. This is also why when your doctors appointment is at 2:00 you don't get called to a waiting room until 2:45. The doctor sees you at 3:15 and he gets mad at you if you have questions past 3:18.
Best you can do for yourself is try to open them yourself WITHOUT PINS OR NEEDLES. If you are putting a good amount of force on and it doesn't open up DO NOT GO HARDER. All you will do is make it worse. It will eventually come to a point that it will be able to be opened up.
If it is painful go to a doctor.
If your cyst is big enough and it opens you may all the sudden feel lethargic, cold chills, maybe a little dizzy. This would be from septic shock. This can be dangerous and can potentially be lethal. You should probably see a doctor if you have this. I personally don't as I don't have the budget with no insurance to see a doctor every 3 weeks or so. All for them to say, ehh you'll be fine.
If you think you have HS, or even any malady that is caused by inflammation take out the night shade vegetables that I said in my original post. I hate that I cut them out as many of my favorite foods I can't eat anymore like sausage and peppers (well peppers are a no no, and that is made in tomato sauce and tomatos are a no no too.
