Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation,...
My journey with HS started when I was young, starting in my early teens (13-15). It was in my armpits, and 3 doctors had no idea what it was until I did research on the internet, and suggested it to a fourth doctor. I have yet to meet a doctor (now 27 y/o) that actually knows how to address treatment for my body. It was always a huge dose of antibiotics, "come back in a few weeks, if no improvement, we'll give you more antibiotics."
I have literally been riding an antibiotic train off an on for about 5 years, with no other treatments offered.
Over time, the disease has just... gotten very bad. I very much worry for my life when I go to sleep in so much pain at night.
The HS cleared up in my armpits for the most part. I still get some every once in a while, but mainly just scarring now.
However the HS has spread all across my underbelly, pubic area, labia inner and outer, the insides of my thighs, along my butt crease and up to my tailbone. I have upwards of 30+ open, oozing sores that are red with irritation, smell and are so VERY painful.
Some of the sores range from dime-sized, to melon sized. I have two sores on my inner thigh that fill the hand in size, connect with about 2.5 inches between them with a tunnel under the skin.
I have parts of my groin that... I had no idea were getting larger. Mainly because I can't FEEL that area anymore. Some areas don't even feel human anymore.
I don't currently have medical coverage. My anxiety and depression leads me to very dark places a lot of the time, and working while in so much pain is becoming unbearable. I'm drowning, and I could use some support and advice. I feel so very alone with a disease that people hear me express anguish about, but they can't see it so they call me a whiner. Meanwhile, my entire genital area looks like a mound of ground beef.
I feel like I might die soon. I see no light at the end of the tunnel. I'm so lost.
