I do not really have pain from it but more so discomfort and mental anguish. After joining this group, I find that most have tried the same homeopathic remedies but you have to keep trying until you find what works for you. I'm still searching although drinking Master Tonic has helped to keep the places draining. One thing for certain, due to HS being inverted acne, keep your hands off the infected areas. If you attempt to expel the fluid, it seems to tunnel and create more places. My sergeon was on the team at UNO back in the 60's that did a lot of research and to this day they are stumped on what causes it. Unfortunately, I feel that I will be back in surgery in a few months and that IS A PAINFUL RECOVERY. I have started my journal and hope that I can find what to eliminate. It seems food related but I also believe stress triggers it as well. Good Luck ... you're definitely not alone.

If they're bad they do hurt, but that is rare. They don't suggest pain meds because they'll make them worse... a warm shower will help. I shower at night and use dial body wash and they usually drain overnight for me(the pressure is what hurts the most I think) once they're draining I use antibacterial non stick gauze pads :o. If the doctor puts you on long term antibiotics make sure to take them everyday on time for the best results! It cleared up for my sister she took them for about 3 months I think, but she also started birth control at the same time

DO NOT TRY TO DRAIN OR POP. I wish i could have had this piece of advice earlier.
Wear lose clothing. I used lemon for my underarms as deodorant because I have never been able to use deodorant.
