I'm a 43 year old female and have been dealing with HS since I was 15. I've been taking Minocycline for about 20 years and recently was put on Bactrum. I know that taking antibiotics for a long time is not good for your body, but I feel like if I stop then my Stage 3 HS will get worse. Has anyone else taken antibiotics for a long period of time?
I also recently started taking Spironolactone and the seems to be helping a little. Does anyone else take this?
Finally, has anyone seen a doctor who specializes in HS or gone to a specialized HS clinic in the Southern California area? I've heard of a couple of specialized clinics in Los Angeles, but I haven't been to them. If so, can you please share?

So I've taken all the antibiotics in the cycline family, mino-, doxy-, tetra, taken bactrum too. Most of these were for severe acne, but it was for many years, and I've even had antibiotics through IV when the HS flare up was so bad. The Antibiotics really didn't make a difference for me, and my case was really severe in several spots. I go to Kaiser Permanente in Southern California. My Dermatologist was very knowledgeable in the HS field. I ended up in Plastics Surgery department with Kaiser and they did an amazing job with the removal of lesions. I don't what kind of insurance you have, but if it's possible to switch I'll give you the name of the doctor that treats me. He's been a godsend from the almost unending medical staff that I've met with.
