I'm glad this is working so wonderfully for you! I wish my insurance would cover it, but I would have to be dx'ed with rheumatoid arthritis for them to cover it. Maybe, hopefully if we have more folks like yourself getting good results, maybe one day my insurance will cover it. I sure could use a way to get rid of my HS in areas I'm not comfortable with the idea of surgery on.

Hi, Ive had HS for almost 30 yrs now. how bad was your HS before starting the Humira? I tried Remicade and ended up with worse HS and fungal infections of my fingernails! My new derm, suggested Humira, but i did not want to do it for the Remicade really made things worse! Both armpits are destroyed from HS and i have it all in my groin areas real bad. I had surgery 5 years ago on right armpit and it never healed, in fact got worse, it drains TONS of horrid pus, and other armpit, the same, many ER trips with gold ball size abscesses and by them cutting them open, i find it makes the infections worse to! Gosh! By reading your post about Humira working for you, it makes me want to TRY it! Do you think i should give it a go? Im so sick 24/7 and so very tired of dealing with this to the point i have become insanely depressed. 4 days ago, yet another huge painful lump came up. A month ago, i went to ER for area in between my panty line, it was SO swollen i could not urinate, they gave me morphine, then those dreaded lidocaine shots and cut it open, it was ALL blood, tons of blood! They packed it and that caused such severe pain, i removed it when i got home & bled for a week straight! That was by far the worst trip to ER i ever had!! They gave me Norco. I had to take 3 all at once just to take the edge off! I could not walk, get up, sit down ect..without help. It was like a nightmare! I have tracking all over my peri-anal area to like cant count them! I firmly believe the Remicade made me sicker! And! My first infusion of it nearly killed me, in that it made my armpit swell so bad it looked like a baby butt, i was SO sick, i could not move my arm. but had to cram hot salt soaks in there and WOW! Literally a cup+of pus came out! Turned out it was because the derm forgot to give me any pre-meds, i.e I.V steroids and some other i.v stuff! The remicade put me on the couch for 6 months and i could not lay flat for i felt like i was sufficating & i made weird gulping sounds in my throat, like some kind of spasms? The side effects where as bad as the HS! My derm also wanted me to try roaccutane, told him NO for i used Accutane years ago and it ruined my eyes & that drug is horrible horrible to! I dont know what to do anymore. Well, i am happy for you, i truely am for i know how HS ruins peoples lives! Take care and write me back ok!

To Dreamer 54. I had severe HS. I took Accutane and I experienced every side effect that that drug caused, then I had surgery in 2009 and had multiple areas removed. My skin remained clear for about a year and then I began to get flare ups again. The areas affected were my inner thigh (multiple areas that had tunneled), groin, buttocks, peri-area, around my anal spincter, and my lower lip. I think you should give the Humira a try. I know that all treatments don't work for everyone, but if there is even a chance that it could work for you, I say go for it. If you decide to take the drug I hope your insurance will pay for it. I was on Remicade and Humira (at different times) for my RA and it made no difference in my HS. both Tx's failed for my RA so no wonder they didn't help the HS.

I am soooo happy for you!! Humira has completely changed my life for the better too!! Shannon I really think if you called Humira they would put you on the plan to get free medicine. Your insurance wont have to cover it bc the drug company itself gives it away or helps you pay for it by you paying a 5$ copay. Please just call them and see what they can do for you.

I thought Humira supressed your immune system? I had never heard of using that for HS before. How does that not make the infection worse?

It is immuno suppressant but it also decreases the ability to swell so if your folicles cant swell then you cant get the boils so it really helps.
Everyone is different so what works for one may not for another but for me it is the best and only optiion right now.

Because it is a immuno suppressent drug, you just have to be careful about getting sick with a cold or any other virus. You can't take any live vaccinations and if you have a surgery you must be off the meds for 2 months. Other then these things this drug is great.
