Hello everyone. I have been researching this for some time now and It is very apparent to me that I do suffer from HS. I to have been misdiagnosed. Where can I get properly diagnosed? So that I may start to get a handle on this and take my life back. It has hindered me long enough and because of this I'm very ashamed of my body because of the scars and outbreaks
Persistence may be key with your doctor or finding a good dermatologist.
I think as much as I've been able to control the outbreaks the ropelike scars will remain unless I am offered surgery and the black/purple scars can take months to a year to fade. When I asked my doctor about what can be done about these dark purple scars she said they were unviable to treat as they are technically still active/healing lesions and would require minor surgery to remove and there are so many (and then you'd get another scar!).
But I will say if you can encourage the skin to turnover dead cells more quickly it can help the healing time along for these marks (please be careful with any active lumps). And I've found tanning moisturiser to be a life saver for my confidence. I think I've said it a lot in this group but it really helps to not only cover the marks a bit but hydrate the skin to make active lesions not scar as dark as they had before. It's my goal to get on the beach without shorts this summer so it's something I can do to make myself feel better about it.
I see people with scars/pock marks on their bodies, living their lives, all the time and I have never once judged them for it because of their confidence! Why can't we do the same? :)
