Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation,...
I've been trying scar creams a lot, and none really have seemed to make a difference for me. I tried Celtrixa stretch mark cream, because why not, you know? It seemed to help take some of the color away, in my opinion, but nothing miraculous. I keep looking for remedies for hyperpigmentation but I am going to try to look at all my options when I see a dermatologist (currently don't have insurance).
If you find any miracles, let me know.
Lavender Oil: supposed to help with the bumps and lesions, I don't know if it will affect the hyperpigmentation.
Hydroquinone: supposed to help with hyperpigmentation; have only applied twice so far
Azelaic Acid: supposed to help with hyperpigmentation; haven't received this one yet.
I researched things to help with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and I found that the hydroquinone and azelaic acid are supposed to be helpful, especially when used together. I read good reviews on them as well.
I will update in a week or two to let you know if I notice any difference.
funkybuddha, It'll take some time until we're able to overcome the shame that comes with HS but you can't let it control your life. I'm a 26 y/o female and my HS is also on my bottom. My ex-boyfriends knew of this, which at the time i thought it was plain ol' acne, and they never made me feel uncomfortable or ashamed. It's actually more embarrassing for a girl than for a guy. I recently started dating this guy and we haven't been intimate yet but i've already brought it up since we were already on the subject of acne. It makes it easier to talk about it first before they see it because if you keep it from them they're going to assume it's something else like an STD because you're avoiding it.
In regards to the marks, i've seen a bit of improvement in the last year or so. This is what i'm currently doing; after I shower (wash with Hibiclens) I apply Cocoa Butter Formula. Note: my dermatologist didn't recommend me the butter, I started doing it on my own. My dermatologist is going to refer me to another specialist for the HS once I'm done with my round of Isotretinoin for my facial acne.
Also, I've been using the products that I mentioned for the past week or so, and I really cant tell. Sometimes I think the scars look better, and sometimes I think they look the same. So I'll keep doing what I'm doing and give another update soon.
