Just had the same surgery on several (5) spots on my groin. I had the upper inside portion of my left inner thigh removed several years ago. The Dr. took out a patch 10 inches by 6 inches and then installed an Integra artificial skin graft to help healing. That one took like 6 months to heal completely. NO recurrences or any troubles since. I had several surgeries on my armpits and have another one scheduled in January. The summary is that the surgery hurts for a couple of days (very controllable with Percocet but then fill in (he takes out a chunk about 1 cm thick) and heal up to a noticeable but not uncomfortable scar in about 4-6 weeks depending on how big the excision was. So far a total of 14 surgeries (between 3 and 5 sites each) but NO recurrences/ These little bastards don't grow in scar tissue and there is only one other person that ever gets to see them. Meanwhile I have lost 80 Lbs., my HgA1C is down to 5.8 (from the mod 10's), I walk 5 miles nearly every day and feel great. It's not an ideal fix but it is way better than anything else I've tried. Like I say - this isn't a perfect solution but they can't hurt you from the landfill and they DON'T come back. The disappointing thing is that they still occur in new areas. I just kill them as they show up.
Good luck and don't let anyone tell you that surgery doesn't work- it is THE ONLY permanent cure.

Thank you for responding. I feel very hopeful. I don't get HS under my breast or in my butt so I worry after surgery on my groin, thighs, and armpits that the HS will start popping up there. The dr said he doesn't think I will since that's not where I have it now. Praying. It sounds like you,very had wonderful results! Happy for you! I hope I too will be able to exercise and lose weight after surgery and healing because it's so difficult now. Thanks again for responding.

I have wide excision flap surgery booked for the 16th March. I'll try and remember to come back here and let you know how it goes!

I had surgery on my bottom.... the recovery and healing has been longer than imagined. The wound can break down, even when you think it's almost healed. So it can be a long road... I also doubt your body will handle excision in all the areas at once...
Depending on the surgery they may leave you with Open wounds to heal by secondary intention (ie grow the tissue back!). They don't always stitch them up (primary intention).. due to the nature of the abscess's ... the infection can come back.

Had surgery on the 16th and as promised I am back! My surgery has gone well so far (not healed yet) except for the wound on my back opening very slightly and bleeding for five days but manageable and not painful so its all good! I really recommend wide excision LD flap for armpit HS. My surgeon has removed my armpit completely and has moved a muscle ( tissue and skin attatched) and tunnelled it under to replace my armpit. I am very hopeful it has removed HS from the area. at the moment I have more movement (without pain!!) than I have had in about 5 years so I am delighted!

I'm interested in knowing this as well. Just got diagnosed after symptoms since age 11. I'm now 34 and hope to find healing soon.
