Hello all. I have a quick question.... does anybodys HS flare up more right before or during your period. Cause mine does and not only do I feel like a balloon with cramps but I feel my HS pain as well. Just wanted to know, am I alone? Lol probably not lol.

Hi Emmy_Kay146,
I hadn't noticed, however I used to have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) so it would be hard to say from back then. After I lost massive weight I had normal cycles and HS went into remission- after weight gain cycles got a bit mixed up and had an outbreak. So I would say there is a hormonal component.

I have been tracking my cyst formations for 3 years with an period app (I was told I had herpes for years until yesterday), and I found that exactly 6 days before my period I begin a massive flare up. I am only able to wear a Diva Cup during my period and that helps. Pads and anything else simply makes it 10x worse.

Is there anything we can do to make it better?

I currently have been on junel 1/20 birth control. Mu doctor explains that I could miss my peruod snd have it every 3 months opposed to having it every month. It could be a horm okknal imbalance. I'll update you and let you know if anything is changing. Good luck with your HS. This shit sucks.

Hi all--yes, I've definitely noticed this too. I'm on Spironolactone (which I originally started for acne prior to my HS diagnosis) and that seems to help keep my hormones (and by extension, flare ups) in check. Definitely something to ask your doctor about--mine puts many of his HS patients on it. Best of luck.
