Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. The disease manifests as clusters of chronic abscesses or boils, sometimes as large as baseballs, that are extremely painful to the touch and may persist for years with occasional to frequent periods of inflammation,...
I'm not sure what's available in the US (or if these are named something different over there)
I have discovered Papaw ointment is good to soften the skin in order to relieve the cyst a bit easier.
Epson salts are also good. (in a bath or wrapt in papertowel or a facewasher) Epson salts draw fluid out of the skin, I have found they relieve the pressure a little bit.
I also take Paracetamol with ibuprofen which I have found helps relieve the cyst (both pain wise but they also burst when I take it)
Im seeing a nurse atm for dressings who has advised yes the ibuprofen will help burst the cyst as its a swollen skin area the ibuprofen trys to relieve this swelling.
Doctors have advised me not to wear deodirant, try talcum powder instead. (corn flour is good to dry out sweating areas aswell) and an antibacterial wash helps also.
And then of course there was the doctor who said i couldnt eat anything processed or otherwise. Meat, Fruit and Veg was basically all he could recommend for a diet.... (yehh that didnt stick with me, but if you have the will power?! LOL)
Good Luck!!!
So glad you have the support of your husband!! Has given me hope that someone will accept me with this horrible condition!!!
I was only recently diagnosed last Wednesday. But even before I was diagnosed I drained the boils myself and started doing various things at home to try and keep them under control. I started using 100% tee tree oil. Some times I would put it directly on the boils/cysts in the evening after work and let the tee tree oil stay on there until the next morning when I took my shower before work. Then I also started doing what I like to call a weekly skin bath. My weekly skin bath consisted of me putting a bit of tee tree oil in the bath and then soaking in the bath for a while. I also bought a hair dryer and I now use a hair dryer every morning to dry my entire body after a shower. Towels don't seem to do a very good job of completely drying my skin and they also take forever so I now only use a towel now to get the majority of the water off and then use the hair dryer to completely dry myself before getting dressed. I noticed if I get dressed while still somewhat damp it just makes my skin worse so the hair dryer really seems to help me. I got both of these ideas from various places online and decided to try them out for myself.
I know that not everything works for everyone. But the above has helped me tremendously. Even though my lumps/bumps/boils or whatever you want to call them never completely go away I am rarely in pain and I believe a lot of that has to do with what I have been doing at home. I'll get the occasional painful flair up but knock on would for the most part so far I have been able to keep the lumps under control so as not to cause a lot of pain. I'm now being treating by a great dermatologist PA in Colorado so I have ceased the tee tree for now because I am currently using prescriptions and don't want to interfere with the prescriptions but I will continue using it again if and when I am off of prescription cream. However I continue to use the hair dryer after every shower.
99% of my HS is on the underside of my breasts with bits here and there on my armpits and one lump on my upper thigh near my groin. I hope the ideas I have given will be of some help to you if you decide to try them. Best wishes to you.
