My heart breaks for your little daughter! Please forgive my rant -- I've just had it up to here with "pros" who harm us with emotional and physical abuse, and then profit from it.

You mentioned 4 visits to a dermatologist. If it was the same doc all 4 times: DUMP him/her! Putting a child into a poison bath is insane, if not altogether malpractice. Read the label on the bleach: it could harm her eyes, damage sensitive vaginal/vulvar tissues and more. This is once again more ignorance from the medical community: that we are "dirty" in some way. You are correct that many lesions start FAR below the upper layers of skin. There are many indications that HS has a genetic/hormonal component. Bleach can't fix that!

Even the suggestion of giving HUMIRA to such a young child has steam coming out of my ears! Some of the side-effects could possibly have life-long consequences. Google-up Humira's side-effects, please! It's shocking.

Lancing is now considered BAD for HS as it opens us up to infections of staph, strep, and even "flesh-eating bacteria". They usually close neatly after draining on their own. A 33-year old woman recently died in Michigan 2 months after having a "boil" lanced on her thigh. I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just totally alarmed that your dermatologist has NO CLUE what he/she is dealing with. In 40 years I've had only 2 lesions go septic after draining on their own, and then happily took a broad-spectrum antibiotic.

I'm about to turn 57 and have had HS for 40 years. If I were young again I'd have had a huge area of skin grafting done (the only "cure") in my entire groin area: buttocks, inner thigh, labia, the works. Once and done! I've missed out on love, friendship, opportunities, jobs, dreams, desires, even... you get the idea.

Please research the zinc dose carefully for a CHILD before having her ingest anything. There's plenty of zinc in a multivitamin. Probably the same goes for the turmeric, too. Don't experiment on a child: Some things cannot be undone.

I'm sorry if this post seems jarring or scary. We care for everyone in our group, and admit that I have a weak-spot for children: I lost both of mine for lack of factual info.

Gonna go have a "good, cleansing cry" now, then will be sending positive vibes to you and your precious daughter.

I agree with instar. If you have had 4 visits with the same derm...DUMP 'EM. And I know personally how bad bleach baths are for your skin. I accidentally fell asleep in a "bleach bath" and got out feeling like I had a bad sunburn. I would recommend Hibicleans if you are worried about your daughter getting clean enough or anything like that, and it is a LOT safer on the skin than any bleach bath. And I can tell you bleach baths are rough on open "spots" OUCH.

I also would avoid Humira for someone so young.

I'm so sorry your daughter has to deal with HS at all, much less at such a young age. I worry every day about either one of my children developing HS. Every heat bump and pimple that has ever crossed their skin has been inspected by me like a crime scene investigator. I am comfortable with checking my daughter out, but my son is older now (a week or so away from being 12!) and although I feel awkward checking out his areas...I'm still gonna do it. God forbid something pop up and I not be aware of it, because my kids are like me, they don't complain and have to be in rough shape when they DO tell me something is wrong.

I do hope you can find some relief for your daughter. Just make sure you research appropriate dosing if you plan on trying tumeric and zinc.

I agree with the others. Dump the derm. Soaking in bleach is harmful period and the derm is a quack for suggesting it. I have been told to soak in three inches of bathwater with a capful of Bentadine solution added which is a wound care iodine wash. Humira for an 11 year old is also insane. Find a better doctor. I have not tried the zinc or tumeric so I have no advice on that except that I would be very careful about giving things to a young child. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Thank you all for the replies. I will not put her in a bleach bath. I am so upset to think it could harm her. We do have the hibicleans, as well as clydamycin which is applied twice daily...Right now she is also on antibiotics (10 days of amoxicyllin) perscribed by derm when I brought her in last week.... I don't know where you folks live; but there is a clinic I am considering in Ohio. Dr. Hazen treats HS with a CO2 laser. If it were my daughter I would not allow the doctor to give her antibiotics unless they take a culture and it grows something specific. Otherwise you risk her becoming resistant to the drugs. It will take about 12-16 weeks for the turmeric/zinc combo to get into her system so that you can see results. Start on a low dose of turmeric 500mg per day. The body will become adjusted to that dose in about a year, then increase it. Good luck!

I had HS when I was in 6th grade :( I feel for ya and your daughter. Its not the easiest thing to comprehend being so young. Im in the process of looking an HS specialist for the exact reason that happened to you and your daughter. Some many doctors out there lack the skill and emotion :( like the others said the bleach is effin crazy. I would maybe do an epsom salt bath they help sooth my pits. Stick to doin reason and know what is safe for children. I had to deal with this on my own back then my parents really didnt care. Im happy your daughter has a great mom and the support she needs :) take care keep us informed.

I think i know WHY she has it, she has always insisted on wearing tight clothes, pants, shorts, underwear. We fight about it all the time. I NEVER thought it would come to this, but I am fairly certain this is why she has it. So please, don't wear anything tight ! So hard w/the Skinny jeans, etc out there. It blocks the follicles/glands and it turns into HS.
A friend of mine told me her son got it. He was 20 and had to show her his groin (so embarrasing) because he didn't know that to do. She thought it was herpes, but it wasn't. Took him to Derm. Told him HS, as a result of working out alot, wearing tight biker style shorts, sweating. Fr him, it cleared up. Doc said do not wear anything tight, sleep naked. I am throwing out all of her tight clothes today. Need to be aware of what the triggers are, tight clothes, sweat, etc...

What kind of underwear do women find most comfortable w/HS? The line is going to hit where the HS is, no matter. Unless you wear boxer shorts.......

I already sleep naked lol but sometimes i wake up and the sheet is stuck to a wound that opened during the night. So i started wearing loose shirt better than the sheets right. Maybe tight clothes is the cause but everyones different. Ive never wore tight shirts and I have them the worst in my pits. I wear tight jeans but my inner thighs arent that bad. As for underwear I wear "boy shorts" they are small and they are like tiny stretchy shorts. Idk i like em lol and they are really cute :P but i dont have em on my waist line so that would be much more difficult.

You DO not get this disease from wearing tight clothes, or not showering enough, or anything like that! You (your daughter) has this disease because she DOES! It is not from ANYTHING that SHE is doing.

My heart breaks for your girl, but please, do not make her feel this is something she's caused. It's a hard disease and the lonliness can kill you. Don't make her feel like she's to blame.

I agree jenn. I dont think tight clothes are a cause of it, but it might make the pain worse when the tight clothes rub i kno for me atleast it does. Everyone has their own triggers, and also agree its not the daughters fault and dont make her do something she doesnt wanna do it sucks enough.
