I agree with your reluctance over taking Accutane.
In the 80's when it first became available I was given Accutane as treatment for HS and the side effects were terrible.
My toenails fell out (they grew back), my teeth were ruined.
The effect on the HS was nil- I've had many surgical excisions since then (not trying to discourage you, just truth).
Also, I believe there is a class action suit against the makers of Accutane.
Stay focused on diet, body weight, and managing negative stress, which seem to have the biggest impact on the frequency and severity of flares.
