Hidradenitis Suppurativa Support Group
Hidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is rare, long-term skin condition that features small, painful lumps under the skin. From reading the forums, it seems that the most common diets that people seems to find success with are low carb/ no sugar, gluten-free, no dairy, no nightshades (nightshades are plants like potatoes and tomatoes,) and sometimes vegetarian.
You really have to try each diet for a few weeks and see if it helps you.
Many people see improvement with giving up smoking as well. Not a diet, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
I have been working on my diet for the last year or so extensively. I wanted to write a more in-depth and thorough post for everyone here, but I'd like to help anytime. So here goes:
I basically went on an elimination diet for my first month which followed the Autoimmune Paleo(AIP) diet. A good cook book for this would be The Autoimmune Paleo Cookbook by Mickey Trescott. She really knows what she is talking about and a lot of the food there is very tasty. As of right now, I have eliminated legumes, dairy, gluten, and most forms of sugar. It may seem very extreme but this path has allowed me to limit my outbreaks and keep the outbreaks that do occur to a tolerable level of pain.
Please if anyone would like to get in touch with me, I would be happy to help because before I started this healthier lifestyle I lived in constant fear and anxiety. But, now, after almost a year of working on my diet and health I can say with certainty that I have a new outlook on life in general.
