Hernia Support Group
There are several kinds of hernias, but the all happen when pressure pushes an organ (often the intestine) through a weak spot in a muscle face or wall. Treatment for hernias can be no treatment, to medicines to surgery. Modern surgical methods to treat hernias are much improved over older techniques and recovery times are much shorter.
Symptoms of GERD can be subtle and you dont always have typical heartburn but the esophagus is getting annoyed and inflammed possibly regularly. You may not know you are having reflux symptoms. It sounds like you have a small HH.
Work on the diet part more carefully as well as taking Gaviscon. I dont find Gaviscon too effective for GERD.
How does that figure into this ?
i was thinking to do to a chiropractor or an Osteopath to
get the esophagus back in position
but i dont know how this will make GERD better.
Any insight is appreciated.
I also realize this would be temporary
because it will slide back.
My doctor and the osteopath I go to said the same thing. When you have any type of of HH, the stomach has moved up and then can slide in and out. It may sit up 1 to 2 inches higher than normal. That makes the esophagus dysfunction for many people and it then allows acid to come in more reguarly than someone who doesnt have an HH. That is why the esophagus gets inflammed and it can feel like typical heartburn or atypical reflux.
I went to a chiro as well for the HH. It made a big difference going to the chiro. The osteopath could make me feel better when I had been in a flare up but not much difference otherwise. The chiro manipulates the thorasic region and I think it made my stomach move down more and stay down. I dont get too much reflux anymore. You have to go to one who has treated people with an HH or a heartburn issue.
A good osteopath can explain the relationship between the esophagus, stomach and diaphragm really well and why you get heartburn from an HH. The esophagus mainly gets inflammed from regular reflux. In the past I have had the exact symptoms you are talking about and I started to realize it was all acid related. The osteopath helped me with understanding it all much better.
