Hernia Support Group
There are several kinds of hernias, but the all happen when pressure pushes an organ (often the intestine) through a weak spot in a muscle face or wall. Treatment for hernias can be no treatment, to medicines to surgery. Modern surgical methods to treat hernias are much improved over older techniques and recovery times are much shorter.
I can tell when it is on the move as I have really hard pain in the chest area and sometimes in the back. I am on PPI also but this is different and I have to manually make the hernia slide back through the opening of the diaphragm and into the tummy. Sometimes that works and often I just have to walk it off.
There is a video on you tube that shows how to manipulate a sliding hernia. I haven't seen it but I am sure you could probably google it on you tube and locate it.
Luck to you.
A small sliding HH rarely has any symptoms.. The hoarsness and shortness of breath and tickling can all be atypical reflux. Nausea is usually gastritis.. YOur other symptoms may be IBS.
YOur esophagus does dysfunction with a small HH and that tends to cause acid to come up when it shouldnt.. Then you get all the acid reflux symptoms. They can be silent symptoms, atypical and typical symptoms.
You do have to be careful with heavy lifting but it is more of a heavy feeling you get on the left side.. Discomfort from an HH tends to be on the left side under your sternum but it is rare with a small one.
If yours is a fixed HH it will show up.. most of the time they do show up even if they slide..
I think you read my post on the gerd site about a chiro.. yes try it for sure.. they cant put it back in place but I think they adjust the esophagus so that it functions better. Make sure it is one that has helped people with heartburn. It takes time for it to work and it doesnt work on everyone.. it depends on how large the HH is..
good luck
