Hernia Support Group
There are several kinds of hernias, but the all happen when pressure pushes an organ (often the intestine) through a weak spot in a muscle face or wall. Treatment for hernias can be no treatment, to medicines to surgery. Modern surgical methods to treat hernias are much improved over older techniques and recovery times are much shorter.
I am, sorry you are feeling so poorly! Doctors can be jerks, cant they? A small HH can give you regular heartburn. It makes the esophageal valve dysfunction. Then acid comes up, especially if you are lying flat out. But acid can reflux up while upright as well. The back thing and shoulder blade sound like an inflammed esophagus to me. Acid can go up into the throat area and cause atypical reflux symptoms. The throat thing sounds like LPR. Google it. It is called silent reflux as well. When the esophagus is inflammed you can feel it in in your back and shoulders and you sound like you are getting the silent reflux symptoms.
Go to the GERD/heartburn site as well. There is a lot of info on diet and heartburn and LPR in some threads. The gastritis site will be a lot of help too.
You may need to sleep propped up all the time. You may be getting night time reflux. Dont eat for about 5 hours before lying down. Nexxium should work better but you also need to manage the diet really well and eat low acid foods. That will help a lot. No coffee etc..
I would get a new doctor!
I hope you feel better soon. A small HH is much easier to manage with diet and you can avoid the reflux symptoms totally with a really careful diet. Reflux can make you feel pretty lousy. The Nexxium 40 mg should take care of it.
