Treatment for hernias can be no treatment, to medicines to surgery. Modern surgical methods to treat hernias are much improved over older techniques and recovery times are much shorter.

25 yrs + Hiatal Hernia + weight exercises?

Hi, 


I have just been told I have a Hitatal Hernia, after believing I had Barrets Oes for two years. 


As I got told I had something different rather than HH, I carried on doing sport (I have a PT once a week) and I do medium weight lifting more than I do cardio so 4/5 days a week. I have been told from my friends I shoudln't really do any lifting, squatting, pushing anything really to do with weights. 


I haven't seen my doctor yet so I dont even know what type of HH it is (I believe there is two types?) or if it is small/large? When I do exercise I get out of breath super quick, I thought this was just due to me being unfit despite working out. My chest also burns when I do some exercises i.e plank, mountain climbers things like that. 
Can someone help me with this?

Did you ever find out what type it was and how big it was? I also just recently found out that I have a HH and I don't much about it. I'm supposed to see my doctor on my Monday but I have already decided to have it operated. Any advice?

This is the exact thing I am going through now. I also like to work out and when the symptoms first started I thought I was just in really bad shape. But then my doctor diagnosed me with Barrett’s. However he and I found it hard to believe considering my age and way of life. I got another endoscopy done a few months later and then they found I had a hernia. I think the Barrett’s was an incorrect first diagnosis and I think it has been this hernia all along. What other symptoms do you have? I have a bunch of others and so that makes me think I have a large hernia. Have you found anything that helps with the breathing?
