this title sounded a little strong and angry..didn't mean it that way just that my heart goes out to everyone struggling with this demon.

wow... dude that is messed up. I've been clean for 9 months now and I'm pretty terrified of relapsng... Let alone staying off it for 30 years... so I guess this addiction really is always around the corner... Not only is understading that asoloutely horrifying but its also a bit of a let down. As in... why bother fighting this if you're only going to bend over backwards later on?

its worth the fight..i might not be around today if i hadn't put it down the first time..just don't ever fully let your guard down..i'm clean and sober today and thats what counts..try not to look 30 years down the road..i've found that staying in today is the best place to be..best of luck ..hang in there its well worth it.

It is a terrible addiction! But look at it this way: We've been through hell and back. And we're still here. We're still alive and still fighting.. so I know no matter what life throws at me, nothing compares to that shit, I can do anything I set my mind to!

I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you contract HepC this time around, or earlier in your "career"? (the way your post reads, it looks like this time around, but I wasn't quite sure).

Im pretty much in the same place as you, well sort of. I was a late starter where heroin is concerned, 29 to be precise which started following a serious accident, I have struggled with it ever since stopping and starting again many many times. I am now in that equally bad place of alcoholism and have found myself once again dabbling with heroin as, like you, I have hep c and my liver is starting to complain in a heavy way with regard to the booze and as I find I dont drink nearly as much, if atall, when using I guess I feel Im giving my liver a bit of a break which of course is absolute rubbish, neither are any good but like many I find it very difficult trying to find a happy medium ie a life with no mind altering chemical. Oh dear, woe is me, these are the sad, pathetic, feel sorry for myself, words that I fimd ringing in my ears on a daily basis and whilst most of the time I feel mind, body and soul that I want out of the lot, there still sems to be this little/big voice inside that tells me I cant do it, is it even worth it at my time of life (Im 47) needless to say I know this is total crap and just excuses all the way, I really need to get a life but moreover get serious about stopping, total abstinence, so at the end of the day Im still bang in trouble and all my own doing, fair play to you for getting yourself out of it pronto. Ive met many people who have been clean for years and like you picked up again but unlike you who I consider to have 'lapsed' they truly have 'relapsed' and are either dead now or have totally given into the addiction. I think your great and have the upmost respect for you, thanx xxx

deus..as well as i can figure i got it this time around..people can go 20 to 30 years and not now they have it but i think something would have showed sooner..also my friend/roomate seems to have contracted it at the same time..

jay what ever you do ..please try to protect your liver..i've heard horror stories and lost friends to hep c and plain old liver damage..lots of water..milk thistle..vitamin c and alpha lipoic acid..please take care and i wish only the best and recorvery for all of you.
