My daughter hate the treatment center she's in
HannasMa
My daughter Hanna has been in a treatment center in florida for 2 weeks now. She says its horrible and wants out. I'm looking into other treatment near where we live in NC, but they don't want to take her because she's also a cutter. Does anyone know how I can get honest reviews or feedback on specific treatment centers? It seems that the only thing I can find on the internet are advertisements and paid endorsements. Thank you for your time even though I'm not the addict.

Hi, not trying to sound negative, but you should look into the rehab shes in now and make sure its really not a good place to be. Cuz it might be a really great place and shes jst not ready for it so shes tryin to get out of there. Im only 19 myself and i know both times my parents sent me to rehab i tried my hardest to play them and make it seem like a bad place cuz i really didnt want to be there when in all reality it was a really great place, the counsilours were jst serious and being hard on me so id learn and want to stop. Make sure shes not jst playing you to get outa being there. You have to be firm, its the only way she'll get clean. Just something to think about it. I wish you and your daughter the best of luck.

Hi, I really agree w/ Nomore on this. You should research where she is 1st, cuz: 1) Addiction inhibits the body's ability to produce chemicals such as endorphins -quitting causes a severe depression w/ deep pychological & physical roots. I believe your daughter is unhappy - but i'm not so sure she'd be content elsewhere. 2) Disrupting her routine, cutting off her ties to councilors & others in recovery she's known since her 1st day of treatment...she may not realize this but there's a good chance they have become part of her crucial support system, even if she doesn't 'like' them. 3.) I think it's important Hanna knows you're prepared to make hard decisions & stick by them right now, becuase you love her & you believe you're doing what's best for her. It's kinda like being a good parent by giving your kid a 'punishment' so they learn the skills to live up to their potential in life. If you don't follow thru or seem directionless in the beginning of her treatment, it won't help either of you 4) She could want the move for self-sabatoging motives she isn't even CONSCIOUS of - the beginning can be that strange. And (finally!) 5.) I thought you said it was only a 1-month program-? If so, it may not be fair for either of you to go thru the chaos of finding a new program. (And yes, H'sMa - you're allowed to NOT take the hardest road possible...harder for you doesn't always mean better for her). I'm sure there are terrible Rehabs out there, but i belive you need more then Hanna's opinion to make the call on this place. Contact them. Ask for references. Learn about their approach to recovery & what Hanna's day to day life is like there. Ask Hanna why she hates it - are the reasons so valid she should risk her recovery? I'd say only if it's pushing her in the wrong direction (abusive -not just tough -staff, rampant drugs, etc). In her homesick mind, i'm sure she believes this would be so much easier somewhere else. But the idea isn't for it to be easy, it's for her to learn the skills to function in the real world, as an addict, for the rest of her life. I know, one of my infamously long posts - i think i'll change my avatar name to 'War & Peace' - lol. Btw - friends/family are not discouragted here. An 'Addicts Only' group was needed, thus formed, problem solved. The 'problem' posts were ones most would recognize as inappropriate for a recovery group. Best wishes, bounce some ideas off me, talk to AngelsW - you are NOT alone.---EveB

Who likes treatment? Bringing up the past and dealing with the shame and guilt of our using are never comfortable. Real change isn't EVER comfortable. 30 days isn't anything. So in a 30 day treatment center, they try to cram a whole lot of treatment into a short time period. All treatment centers are similar. They're state licensed and therefore all are similar in what they teach. Relapse prevention, Gorsky, etc. You know how to tell when an addict is lying? Their lips are moving. She just wants out. Statistics say it takes an average or 6 treatment centers before a person actually gets sober. Maybe she's just not ready right now and that's O.K..Failure is a part of the process. But what you need to do is to stop enabling her. She's got you wrapped around her finger and can manipulate you like a puppet. Take some time and relax knowing that your daughter is in a safe place, no more sleepless nights for you worrying about where she is at night and if she's O.K., and that she's getting the care she needs. You can only trust an addict when the prove that they can be trusted which usually takes about 6 months of sobriety. action speak louder than words. I don't mean to sound harsh, but let's not forget that we're dealing with a deadly disease THAT WILL KILL HER. So fuck a person's feelings. We're more concerned with the big picture. Even if she hates you, at least she's O.K. and alive.
