I cant stop. Its that simple. Every pay day i basically flush is down the toilet. Or rather inhale it. And every week I tell myself I'm not going to do it again. I can get through the withdrawals, probably. but every week is the same. and I desperately want to end this stupid vicious cycle. But i don't know how. or maybe i just don't want to so I'm not trying hard enough. I guess that's why i am here. instead of going and sitting in a room full of strangers i prefer the anonymity of being online. where i cant see anyone's face or look of disapproval. So I guess I am basically in the simplest of ways, asking for help. or advice. or maybe just someone to talk to about it. because there's not really anyone in my life to whom i can speak completely openly with about this. yes i have supportive family members and whatever yet no one in my life knows one hundred percent the true story. whats really going on. i am really good at that. keeping loved ones at a distance. in a way protecting them from my stupidity. or rather shielding myself from their scorn and disapproval. i don't know. Welp that's me rambling. Thank you internet for the lovely vial of anonymity and for the sudden urge to explore this unknown realm of strangers giving strangers words of wisdom, or experience. or whatever this thing turns out to be. I guess I'm saying help.
My ex is a heroin addict (among other things). He was amazing before his relapse, and since his relapse has begun I don't recognize him anymore. He has hurt me in ways I never imagined to be hurt, and certainly not by him. He has lied and betrayed me and refuses to end his behavior.
And while I have walked away, I can you tell with absolute certainty I still love the man he was. If that man came back I would welcome him with open arms. But he doesn't want that.
Your family will not turn their back on you. You want to change and that is admirable. Everyone has a past and you have to use your guilt to lift yourself out of this situation, don't hide behind it.

Finally, I wanted to get clean, more than I wanted to use, more than I wanted to keep lying to myself. I started going to Narcotics Anonymous meetings. I met a bunch of old acquaintances I thought were dead or in jail and they had been going for a few months to a few years. Some had cars and jobs and apartments. One was taking college courses after she got her GED as well.
That was 20 years ago. I am retired at age 50, living in Florida, still going to N A meetings, still improving myself. I have 3 grandsons all members of my family talk to me, I have the keys to my neighbors houses, cars, boats. That's just stuff. I have me, I know who I am and I know who I am not.
