Hi. I joined this group to see how people who are suffering/recovering from addiction are doing but also kind of like,,, I don't know. maybe I should start from the beginning here,, my father has a bad meth addiction granted I know this is a heroin support group but that will come into play in a minute. My brother for about 3 years had a heroin addiction, I watched him struggle and steal from me and my mom to support his habit, I watched him fight for his life after overdosing on a mix between I think meth and heroin (and god knows what else). He's recovered since then thankfully but addiction very clearly runs in parts of my immediate family. With this being said, I dealt with a lot of traumatic experiences as a young child being exposed to drugs and things like that. Of course you learn to cope as you go on but lately some memories have been resurfacing and as a defense mechanism my brain (well more so me) has been kinda romanticizing the use of heroin and other substances like whippets etc. i have more of a desire to do whippets than heroin but regardless I'd like to avoid any drug that I could possibly get addicted to. I just need to know, is there hope for me to not follow down their path? Any advice at all please I will take. Even a better insight of WHY people are so easily addicted? like my father never speaks to me anymore since he's unfortunately so fried (I apologize if that's not what I should say to describe his condition) I miss looking in his eyes and still seeing my dad in there somewhere. Behind his eyes it's just nothing anymore and it makes me sad he chose drugs over his family.
