This is very hard for me to share, so please anyone that is using or is with someone who is using, please give me any advice that you can.
I dated a guy for 7 years, love of my life. we ended up breaking up not because he was using heroin - but because he started cheating on me with the girls that he would use with. I had to leave, because it wasn't fair to me to keep staying with him and supporting him if he was going to cheat too. so it took all of my strength to leave. Not a day went by that I have not thought about him. a year and a half later we are now back in contact. It is clear that we both love each other so much but he knows that he needs help. he is at the stage that he knows he needs it and this will be his 5th time going into rehab. the other 4 times he came out and went straight to his current girlfriend who uses to and she provides him it and they OD together. its a pattern.
now for one of the problems. I want to be with him so bad, but the old him that was not using. he is so amazing when he is clean and so strong of a man! he is so much better than this. I know that this is not his path in life forever. I want to be there for him , every step of the way. but..he obviously cant be dating or seeing this girl if he wants to make things right with me. he is planning on going to rehab within the next month if the place has availability.
his family all tell me that I am his rock, his reason for living, his hope to get clean. I don't want to put that burden on me, but I love him so much and I want to help him and make him better. but I also have to think about myself and not get hurt...again. he admits that he doesn't care if he lives or OD's if I am not in his life.
he also admits that he is using this girl because she provides him all of the drugs bc he doesn't work or have a car. she strips, has a car, and gives him drugs whenever he craves. she is horrible influence in his life. she caught us talking and threatened to slit my throat if we continue to talk. I told her that I am only here to help him, not date him. but she is crazy.
please anyone ask me anything specific and I will be completely open. this is definitely a shorter version of this problem but I hope it will give you some insight to guide me, give me advice, or experiences on dating someone who uses but wants help and is getting it. and maybe even how I can be there to support him! anything I can do.

For now the love of his life are the drugs and that's that. He is unable to feel anything human. That's what drugs do. You're putting your life on the line... Please, check out Friends and Families of Addicts for support. I'm sorry for being so blant...
